Sorry, Oppo, but I am bored. Tales of backyard enginering.

My wife is suffering the wrath of Satan, or ad she calls it, shopping for clothes woth two teenage boys. She is a saint who spares me, but also wants to avoid me murdering our children.

I am hanging out in the backyard with my dogs and checking out my best projects. The zip line over the pool is my pride and joy.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I am particularly proud of this anchor to the Japanese maple.

My pond has been an 8 year labor of love.

Do you want to build silly shit in your yard? I once built a cat house called Meowlcatraz.

I am your guy if you want to build something stupidly fun.

The backyard fort at our house is coming down this summer. I am leaving the poles in place, removing everything above the platform, dropping the platform to the ground, then building a new roof and some walls. Wala! A backyard shed! The footprint is just big enough to house my lawn tractor, the push mower, and the rest of our outdoor tools. My wife wants to tack on a greenhouse so she can do some winter gardening.

Then we need to gravel or pave the side yard so I don’t have to mow around the trailer parked there, upgrade the drainage from the other side yard, upgrade the raised garden beds, screen in the back porch, maybe look into a pool....

I love building silly crap for the sake of my kids. Our creations usually involve PVC pipes and a lot of water. The nice thing is that since we almost never glue anything they can be torn down and rebuilt in endless different configurations.

But my next project is just going to be a fairly simple tire swing. I’ve had this old 20" tire bumming around for a few years now and I finally have a house with big enough trees to support one. So once I can figure out what kind of rope to buy, that’s definitely going to happen.

Although now I might have to consider doing a zip line too. We have several large trees and it sounds like that would make it a lot easier to pull off.
