Looks like they’re building a new foundation. It’s as cumbersome and expensive as that sounds.

I figured as much, but the new foundation is significantly larger than the original building, which threw me off

I did something like that to my own house.
I jacked it 15 feet in the air, to demolish my old concrete footing. Poured a new heated slab. Built walls then sat the old house on the new house.
I did mostly everything myself except for the jacking of the house.
I’ll post you some pics from my phone later if you want to see my project since 2014.

Could be that there wasn’t a basement under there before and now they want one without digging down more. Is there a high water table in the area?
