A8L, around a 2010 or so. Seems like it would be tough to make any money with this car to me.

Kinja is killing me this morning. Right now it looks correct on my phone and is sideways on my desktop.

I’d love to ride in it as a passenger, but as a driver, it seems sub-optimal.

Does Illinois have mandatory vehicle inspections?

Not really, no - for cars over 4 model years old, registered in the Chicago or St. Louis Metro areas, there’s an emissions test every other year. And that seems to be down to just a quick OBDII scan. That’s it.

Does lyft have a “fancy”tier like Uber? If so maybe it’s worth it?

Probably, I guess? That’s the only possible way it could work. Even so, this is a big, complex, out-of-warranty (probably) Audi. Great car, but I wouldn’t want to use it as a taxi.

Lyft is relatively new around Chicago, though, so I’m not sure about that-

I find it oddly (Aud-ly) appropriate the Lyft sticker is falling off the windshield.

He he - yeah. To be fair, the car looks to be in pretty good shape. And the fact that it’s parked in my office building lot suggests to me that the owner is only doing Lyft part time.

Yea I agree, maybe hes got an aftermarket warranty, but that warranty would have to be close to 4k on its on for a car like that.

However I took a fancy tiered Uber a few months ago when I was “I don’t care take me home now!” drunk and it was over $100 to go 20 miles!

At $5 a mile, I think I could make an E60 M5 work. That’s crazy!

I just looked, it was $130! Luckily I’m always the first of my bunch to be like “Ok clowns, I’m out I need my day tomorrow.” Then usually some people will be like, ok yea smart move lets go. So I split that ride 3 ways, but still.

I went from Philadelphia out to the suburbs on a Saturday night at 1am, so I’m sure that had a lot to do with the price.

That sounds like a drunk tax. UBER seems to be pretty good at knowing when they can charge surge pricing.

And I don’t know about Philly, but if you’re in the city of Chicago and take a city cab to the suburbs, it’s double meter and will end up being $100 -200 that way, too.

Yep, still not my worst one. My wife yacked in an uber once, the poor guys car was brand new too! So I paid him $250 on top of the ride so that he could get the car detailed. I wanted to disappear that night lol.

This Saturday I will chauffeur people around in my Bel Air for their wedding. Considering the fuel economy, it’s not really worth it, but it gives me an excuse to drive around and I like how people react to it.
Also: bonus karma points for bringing smiles to peoples faces.
and negative karma points for hitting on the bridesmaids :)

It’s only negative karma if you (or they) are spoken for! Otherwise it’s to be expected... :)

In order to make this work I think you might have to rob your clients at gunpoint. Not great for repeat business, but it might keep him ahead of the repair bills...

I was shocked when we ordered an Uber for my grandpa like 6 months ago, that the driver showed up in a Toyota Sequoia. That can’t be easy on fuel.

I like your train of thought - we just need to make sure that the rider gives us a 5 star rating while they’re handing over their wallet, and then it becomes sustainable, right?

oof! That’s painful - but still way less painful than a DUI would be (even with the embarrassment), so still a better choice.
