On this Day in 1958, Team Lotus makes their Formula 1 debut in the Monaco Grand Prix, the opening the opening event of the year’s European racing season. Their entries into the event were two Type 12s driven by Cliff Allison and Graham Hill. Allison, even though he was 13 laps down and the last running car to cross the line, finished a respectable sixth in his Lotus. Hill however finished in 26th place due to an issue with a halfshaft taking him out after 69 laps.
