I have a friend in the military that shared this. He doesn’t understand why it is so funny.

Socket to me?

HAHAHAAaHAHAHAH
I’m in the know *wink*

Neither do I. Please explain.

I just lost a nice high quality 10 mm spanner. I’m pissed.

Don’t make me bust out my 9!
![]() 05/17/2017 at 15:50 |

Is that a hollow-point socket?
![]() 05/17/2017 at 15:56 |

always been an 8mm deep-well guy myself...
![]() 05/17/2017 at 15:57 |

I’ve always need both along with a 13mm.

What the hell takes a 9?!

bitch please!
![]() 05/17/2017 at 15:58 |

Mechanically inclined people are always joking about not be able to find a 10mm socket/wrench etc.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 15:58 |

I would be too. I misplaced my good ratcheting one.

.... your mom?

A really rusty 10mm... ask me how I know.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:01 |

I could make sense out of a 9mm, please explain.

Some cycling gear does and I can’t recall what but I’ve used it on a car or truck too. That picture up above is for a 9mm spline drive. I have one of those in a set, never used it.

In many car communities online people are always joking about losing 10mm sockets and wrenches etc.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:06 |

I’ve got one of those at home. Except mine is not for an impact sadly.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:06 |

I’ll give that a star just because I feel I must.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:07 |

I think I’ve only used a 9mm on a slightly stripped bolt before honestly. It’s weird, I’ve had more use for a 5.5 I have than that.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:08 |

Yeah, I thought about that afterwards. I’ve been there.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:08 |

OK, but what about the “The things you find police calling” bit? #blessed makes sense now.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:08 |

Oh, okay. That’s kind of funny to me for a different reason. All the nuts on wheelchairs are either 7/16" or 10 mm, with a smattering of other metric sizes. So, I always keep a set of metric sockets.

Police call basically means making sure there is absolutely nothing on the ground. It’s just one of those military things.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:11 |

Gotcha.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 16:11 |

It seems like most items in the world now meant for mobility of any type vary between 8,10, and 13mm anymore.

Look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls!
(This set is too old to cover WW2)
And this has been my “wow, I feel old now” moment for the day :)

And preferably in Allen heads of soft metal wherever possible.

I was coming here to say “ I ’ ll take ‘ Things lost somewhere in the engine bay of my car for $200 please, Alex ’”
Then I looked up
“
police call
”
and realized we
’
re on the same page. (
“
The things you find WHILE police calling
”
would have read better. You had me confused for a long time. I was like
“
Why are the police calling a socket? Is this about their preference for 40cal rounds vs 9mm?
”
)

I’m 37, so am I!
Spotted the encyclopedia set this weekend at my grandparents house for a funeral. I cracked the same joke with a handful of aunts and uncles, who all watched Laugh In, but they were all too old to remember it :P

Japanese automakers go for 12 and 14 mm instead of 13, for what it’s worth.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 17:36 |

As far as I’m concerned, tool kits should have 3 extra 10mm everything and double 13mm everything. One of each in a set? Pfft...
![]() 05/17/2017 at 17:40 |

I can’t remember what size it is, but on the Vanagon thus beast was used to remove the rear axles. I didn’t have a big enough breaker bar, so I used the secondary method of pounding on the flat parts for loosening and tightening these nuts.

I have extras in my tool bag. I don’t know how many I’ve replaced

I’ve always had trouble keeping 12 mm’s
![]() 05/17/2017 at 19:41 |

Nor do I. It’s ridiculous.

Yeah, his phrasing was a bit off but most people that follow him would understand(even though he is an MP).

I did not know that. The only things I’ve worked on have been all US domestic brands. Except a scooter, but I haven’t really torn into that yet.
![]() 05/17/2017 at 19:45 |

I don’t have too many uses for a 12mm between a Jeep, Focus, Rendezvous, and Ram 1500. Those brands aren’t big user of it.
