At least it’s a chest style freezer. The contents will stay frozen much longer than an upright!

Try to play it?

I have a thermometer on my upright and was able to keep everything below freezing for about 18 hours after our last outage — first step was load the top shelf with bags of ice and don’t open the door again. I’ve heard of chest freezers staying sub-freezing for 3-4 days if you add some ice.

I’ve always known that the chest style were more efficient because they don’t lose the cold air when the door is opened. I just don’t know how much better they are for a given thickness of insulation and total volume.
Either way, it sounds like pip bip’s was either really inefficient or was off for a couple of days before he noticed.
