Yes indeed, I may be getting a free project car, and it would be a Cadillac, which would make it my second.
It’s a 1992 Cadillac Coupe deVille owned by a friend of mine’s dad in New York. He knows I’m a Cadillac and Malaise aficionado, and would like to give me stewardship of the car to take care of it for a while.
This means, however, that he is probably going to want to buy it back at a later date, but that’s fine by me.
There are a few issues however, he claims that it stalls, and that there may be a slight oil leak. There’s also some minor cosmetic things, most of which can be fixed, no problem.
Should I, Oppo?

Maybe. If it lived it’s life in NY State.
If it’s an NYC car, I might have second thoughts. Between the condition of the roads and the drive/park-by-feel nature of NYC drivers, if it’s lived in NYC it’s whole life it may be in need of way more love than it’s worth.
But maybe.

One owner, not NYC, garaged for most of its life and never a winter driver.

Many moons ago my family owned a ‘90 Sedan DeVille that had the same issue- it would just occasionally stall for no apparent reason. We bought it with 45,000 miles and sold it for $300 at 125k miles. It was still in mint condition, too. Why? because it was miserably unreliable. It’s honestly the most unreliable car I can remember in my lifetime. Damn, it was comfy, though!

Our fam had the fleetwood version for a while, we got it around 1998, IIRC the head bolts just pull out of the aluminum block and take the threads with them. We had to find a good replacement block for it, then dumped it before it f’ed us again. Basically just watch out for head gasket / overheating type stuff, by then it’ll just be telling you with it’s last breath. I also learned those were part of the GM era where they liked to use plastic fenders. The fronts are like saturn style polyurethane or something.

I’m not a Cadillac man, but for the price and the conditions of the “sale,” I’d take it and use it as a super comfy commuter once I had it fixed up.

North Star v8 right? That’s the typical issue with those. Couple ways to fix it though, but need to pull the motor. Otherwise, that lump is pretty bulletproof.
