Let’s just say they lowballed us (not surprisingly). Time to start the fun private selling process! Any guesses what Carmax offered? 92 with 140k miles one owner. And yes, I lazily edited out front license plate.

Two-fiddy. That’s around the price any dealership will give for a 20+ year old car that will most likely go directly to the auction block.

Dealer offered $200 for my wife’s 2001 Sable. Considering I eventually sold it for a whopping $400, I should have taken that offer.

I’m guessing they offered $500.
Do I win a prize?

This is closer to what I’m expecting by selling it privately

So you think the vehicle will sell for 1700... so it sounds like you got a fair offer at 500. Carmax will have to sell that to another dealer and there ars costs for them to do so. That dealer then needs to pay for his costs of doing business (advertising, rent, utilities, fees from the state, taxes, reconditioning, etc)and still make a profit. Its a 25 year old van not a 67 shelby.

This is what my family got from the dealer for our ‘91 in 2005.

Where are you selling? If not terribly far from mid-Missouri, my sister-in-law might be interested. She really misses hers.

Unfortunately. I’m really hoping we find a good 2nd owner for it. It’s been such a great car the past 25 years, it’d be a shame to sell it to someone who would just beat up on it. Granted it’s still a 25 year old minivan.

The new owner may beat up on it, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t appreciate the old girl. I’m guessing a painter/carpenter/etc. is going to get many more good years out of it.
