Today’s F150 project happened early. I went into a work a bit late to facilitate getting the windows tinted on the new truck. I went with a 35% light transmission tint on the sides and back glass. Normally, I would do a 5% or a 20% on the back window, but I’m probably going to run camper shell on this truck of which the back window will already be tinted. 35% is the legal limit on front side windows in Texas, and it is an inspection item.

Window tinting is one of the very few things that I don’t do myself on a vehicle. While the technique isn’t hard to do per se, it does take skill to do it really well. It is a skill that I’m happy to pay someone to do well on my cars. I’ve got a guy in Las Cruces who runs a fantastic little tinting shop. They do no advertising, are not in the phone book and do not have a website, facebook page or any other web presence. They have only a small sign above the door, and they stay extremely busy. It turns out he does much of the tinting work for dealers in Cruces. He is also the guy that folks who know have do their tinting. The F150 is the third vehicle of ours that I’ve had him do, and every one of them has been impressively well done. I snagged his first appointment at 8am this morning, and it was $100 and 45 minuets well spent.
