I don’t really like the the look of the license plate relocated to the side. Even though I’m a fan of asymmetry in general, I think the plate looks better centered.
Now, if someone sold a giant, blurry, foam rubber thumb that I could stick to the plate, I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

I’m the opposite. I prefer symmetry in general but I like off center plates.

I prefer it to the side. They look like buck teeth to me on the BRZ and other cars with big mouth-grilles

I too like it centered.

I have mine mounted to the side, but only because I didn’t want to drill into the bumper.

Me too. It actually really bothers me though.

Tempting, but I’m probably not brave enough for that.

I quite like the licence plate low down.
or the licence plate stickers on the leading edge of the bonnet.
((granted, not an option in the U.S.))

The correct answer (I have found) is under the front seat along with a set of screws and a screwdriver.
WHEN you get pulled over for no front plate, play stupid like, “Aw man, I’m so sorry. I took it off yesterday to take some pictures of the car, but forgot to put it back on. I have it under my seat right now and can have it back on in 2 minutes.”
*disclaimer- ideally your car has an easily removable plate bracket as well that doesnt leave visible holes behind.

I don’t mind it too much, but I’d prefer not to have to run a front plate.

Live in a state with no front plate?
(Something I’ll miss if I ever need to move states).

Same here. It’s not the best look but it’s better than drilling into the bumper.

Trying to avoid drilling holes in the STI bumper that came from the factory with holes for a Japanese plate?
I got a plate holder with slots in it and some well nuts to avoid drilling on my WRX:

Plateless and drive fast?

I got something similar, but I had briefly considered going “side plate” style.

I wasn’t a fan of the side mount on WRXs, but mostly because the USDM Hawkeyes had a kind of blister in the front bumper for plate mounting:
Leaving that open, or even using a trim plate on it *while still having a front plate* always looked dumb to me.

I’ve been doing that with almost every car I’ve owned, except my 01 Civic which had a bump in the front bumper for it to mount on, so it looked weirder without one.
All states are different but in WI I haven’t had a problem with running the plate on the dash. I’ve been pulled over before but every time the cop sees it in the dash and says “oh sorry, I thought you didn have a front plate.”

what about running it off center but still in the “mouth”. Because of the shape of the bumper it looks too unattached on the lower picture. Like half of it is dangling in the air.
I wish the US would get license stickers like the Brits do for cars with out a good plate location. It doesn’t look the best, but it’s better than a chunk of metal hanging off your car.

Thanks, that magnet solution looks clever. I already bought an adapter that uses the existing Japanese holes, though.

I just drilled holes in the appropriate places in the plate. For some reason people seem to think that’s ILLEGAL but you can still read the tag perfectly clearly and the socket head fasteners I used are barely noticeable, so I have no idea why it would be a problem. Mines been this way for a couple of years now and I’ve yet to receive a complaint about it despite parking in downtown areas where they complain about such things weekly.

I had one of these on my Fiero and loved it! I always left it down and never got stopped. But if I did, I would just say I forgot to put it back up from washing it.

BC is a bit picky for that. I used to try that with my truck, moved it over to the bottom bumper pointed down (mind you truck was lifted so it’s easy to read) they still ticketed me.
Keeping it open and forward is the least PITA. To the side has never been a problem for me so long as it’s not pointed down.
