Kinja'd!!!

Update on project Schwindled.

I replaced the front brake pads and cables. Haven’t done the rear’s yet, because setting everything up was a waaay bigger pain in the ass than disassembly. The front pads still aren’t perfect. One side engages slightly sooner than the other, but I couldn’t tell while riding.

That being said it is serviceable now. It shifts, although rather clunky and noisy. I haven’t rode it since I was a kid, so I don’t know if that’s normal or not. I’ll check the shifter later. I was kind enough to spray some WD-40 on both sprocket sets though.

Anyway, I have a functioning bike for $25! I bough a universal kickstand for $15, but it won’t work. So I’ll have to return it and find one that does. Hopefully I don’t have to get some vintage one for $100 :)

WD-40 isn’t a lubricant! It’s a penetrant. Do that chain some favors and get a real chain lubricant like ProLink or TriFlow. Apply to the chain and not the gears. It’s also great for your brake and shift cables.

2x the Tri-Flow suggestion. Drip some into the cable housings to really get those cables lubricated.

Now that the brakes are in order, check the shifter cable tension.

Don’t bother with the kickstand, that’ll just tear up your frame.

Really? Didn’t realize frames were that weak :(

It won’t cause serious structural damage, it’ll just leave cosmetic damage - torn up paint and such.

Ahh, the paints already pretty far gone anyway. I’ll need to do something about the few spots of rust it has at some point soon. Since most of the decals are gone I might just do a coat of rustoleum over the whole thing since it’s not a looker as it is.
