I got bored leaving work and took this picture with my iPhone’s portrait mode, but I don’t know if it did anything special.
Here’s one I took without portrait mode:
I probably should have tried harder to get the same distance and such, but whatever. I guess the first one looks a little nicer? No idea, I’m no photographer. Philosopher? Sure. Pornographer? Of course. But not a photographer.

To think that you considered selling it! Tsk tsk. I’ve no doubt that it would be highly offended.

Portrait mode tries to mimic the shallow depth of field effect of using a lens with a wide aperture on a real camera, using the iPhone’s dual lens camera. You can’t really see the effect here for 2 reasons:
The subject has to be relatively close to the camera and on one general plane. The front-to-back depth of the Land Cruiser is kinda big here.
The background is almost all one big blown highlight so there’s no detail to blur anyway.

Because I’m a bad person I’m still considering it. Basically, everything in my life is for sale all the time always, except maybe my wife and son. Maybe.

There we go. You’re as knowledgeable a photographer as I am a pornographer.
