I’m listening.
Oh, they’re just spacers.

it does seem strange to me that there aren’t companies out there that make or at least have made coils for the lift crowd. Subaru especially. I mean, there are a lot of people who lift subi’s these days...for some reason...so why not cater to that market. hold on...brb.
EDIT. they do!

EDIT AGAIN: boo, its just a spacer and a slightly taller spring.

Yup. Here’s one of my favorites:

The smart has a spacer lift kit available (for $350 - highway robbery!), it’s the one I’m going to use for my project. It’s just a two inch lift, but combined with meaty tyres will give you a ground clearance of 11 or so inches. Not too bad. :)

But hey at least it’s a bit more travel. If I could have an extra 1.5" of ride hight and travel it would make a big difference.
I’d bet there a lot stiffer tho, and idk if I’d want that

That’s how they do it at the factory does it on the Outbacks... just on the subframes.

Looks like DMS is one of the only options for a full setup. http://get-primitive.com/coilover-kits/349-dms-50mm-gravel-struts-rally-suspension.html

Bolting up Forester suspension onto certain years WRXs is pretty popular and gives you an actual lift.

People have been bolting Forester suspension onto WRXs for years.

I feel like it’d be super easy to roll, but awesome off road.

With the area flooding yesterday, my wife started worrying about which car would be better for our daughter, her Explorer or my mom’s Outback. Not one to depend on hearsay, I jumped on the internet to find an answer.
I was surprised to see that the Outback has slightly better ground clearance and more protection for the parts underneath. Being slightly smaller, it is easier to drive on our narrow roads. The Outback also gets better fuel mileage and has all-wheel drive instead of just front wheel drive. I don’t expect my daughter to go off-roading anytime soon, but it would be good for her to have something with a little extra grip when things get slippery.
Both of them are really nice inside with leather, power windows and seats, and navigation packages. Really, I think they are both too nice for a kid’s first car. I’m thinking we need to get her something more basic. Perhaps a little Crosstrek instead.
Anyway, in my search, I came across the video below. This guy has been modifying his Outback and is doing most of what the Jeeps do. His lift at the time of the video was a simple spacer lift. His other mods are a bit more comprehensive. He built a full-size tire carrier and figured out how to mount a concealed winch.
Now I’m thinking that my wife needs a new car, my daughter needs an Explorer, and I need to keep the Outback for myself. :D

You can’t get any more off roading than this.

Hmm, I thought Wes Siler had increased the lift on his Outback, but I guess I was wrong, ground clearance was something he was happy with: http://gizmodo.com/how-i-turned-my-subaru-outback-into-a-real-adventuremob-1716068985
