When a guy pulls out of a sale because “he doesn’t feel confident” due to the fact that I don’t provide him with the bill of sale of the car when I freaking bought it myself! Yup, sure! We’ll also go over my accounting and pay a visit to the last owner before me while we’re at it... Gosh people sometimes, really...

Well... I don’t think it’s a crime that someone just not take your word for it.

Who the hell asks for the proof of how much a person who flips a car bought it? Along with the adress of the past owner of the car, which are on the same document (which are private informations that, as a company, we’re simply not even allowed to give).

Oh, he wanted an actual value? I assumed you meant bill of sale as “proof” of sale.

Oh no, I gave him a copy of our own title of the car (registered under the name of our company). No, no, he wanted the past bill of sale lol...

Ohhh. Well then I’m in total agreement then! Also, asking how much someone paid for something is tacky anyway...

I know lol. First time I end up with someone like that.. Then again, I haven’t been exporting cars for long enough to have cumulated too many experiences like this :)

The guy who bought my Celica bought his friend-who-knows-cars-much-better-than-he-does friend when he came to look at it. It was immediately apparent that the goal was to win his friend over, and not the actual buyer. During the test drive, said friend did actually ask me what I paid for it. I told him, “If you were me, would you answer that question?” I got Fry-squinty eyes meme look followed by a slow nod.

I would tell him how much I paid... and then how much more I paid to get it registered, running and looking nice, as well as what my time is worth in case he felt like wasting it.

haha, yeah I don’t really get it either... If I buy the car from a friend, sure Imay ask, but I probably already know anyway, but some random guy?

Mmmm, I dunno. When buying a house would you not look at the previous sale price history on Zillow? Granted previous valuation is a poor indication of future worth but if I can see that someone is obviously flipping something I for darn sure want to inspect it closely to make sure the restoration/flip repairs were done well and not just a hack job to maximize profit.

What you paid for the car doesn’t matter at all, that’s a stupid thing to ask for. People just so loathe the idea of another person making money on them, it would somehow be better if you paid $5000 for a $4000 car than $3000.

I know.... And I talk as a guy who paid waaaay too much for cars in the past. But then I get to deal with that, for a car I clearly explained I was trying to move out of my inventory to buy different stuff due to a lack of space (hey, I live in Japan! Who would have guessed I can’t stock 10 cars forever lol).

My only guess is that he saw the “too cheap” as being a trick from a guy on the other side of the world? One thing is sure, he won’t find another one like this at this price, with such a description, for the same amount lol... (Being in the other side of the world when I sell cars, I do take pride in describing cars I sell freakingly and utterly accurately... So when, in spite of all my efforts, potential customers still doubt me, I have to say it kind of hurt personally lol)

People are clueless about the privacy act laws. We get requests for prior service history and I can’t because all the documents have customer information on them. I can tell them recalls performed and what if any services were done at our shop. Its crazy we get that type of stuff even in a parts dept. We sometimes are asked where we get our parts and its a GM dealership. I want to tell them “its not Autozone etc, if that’s what you’re thinking. They also will want to know our cost on something. None of their business, we are all allowed to work and make a profit. They wanted to know what you paid so they could haggle with you over the price of the car. I wish we could all say what we are thinking when put in these types of situation. I’m astonished they wanted the prior owners info that’s just way wrong.

In all fairness, he didn’t want the infos of the prior owner... But he wanted the bill of sale of the car when I bought it, which contain such infos :)

Obviously, as a company, not something I’d ever provide. And even then, as you said, how much I bought the car is none of his business (even though I actually told him since I want to get rid of the car to fill its spot with something else and I guess he didn’t trust me and want a proof of it or whatever lol)...
