Mazda FD rx7>Nissan 300zx>Mitsubishi 3000gt Vr4>Toyota Supra>Acura NSX>Skyline Gt-r. Although I’ll admit sometimes I switch the Nissan and Mitsubishi.

The more realistic list (minus the Flagships part) because I’m broke: NA Miata (anotha one!)>Mitsubishi Galant Vr4>NB Miata>Honda CRX si>Honda beat/Suzuki cappuccino>Subaru SVX>Subaru St6 4wd coupe>Toyota turbo MR2

Anything else Japanese: Datsun 510, Datsun 240Z, Galant VR-4

I feel like the SVX should be in the top section.

Better order: NSX>Eunos Cosmo>GT-R>Supra>RX7

(3000GT and 300Z are a no go for me)

Yeah probably. I’m a little sour on it needing a manual swap from the get-go so it got downgraded a bit haha

I see probably 4 imported gtrs a day in Seattle, all driven by the exact same crowd. I no longer have any desire for one... Now the little hatchback sold in the 90's with gtr running gear? Yes please

I want an R30 or R31 Skyline (not technically GT-Rs). R32 would be okay, but R34s do absolutely nothing for me.

Did the S2k come out in the 90's? It just looks so modern...

I know zero about the sporty Acuras but would love one at some point

Call me crazy but I’d add an SVX, MR2, and a Talon TSI AWD to your original list.

Yeah, the AP1 came out in April 1999, at least in Japan. Might have been a little later elsewhere.

Stuck on 405 North today and saw a yellow S2k and another silver with a hard top. It got me thinking. I could totally be into rocking one as a nice weather dd.

Also the shoulders were open. Weird driving on the shoulder

Hmmm i’d go NSX, FD, Supra, R32 GT-R, 300ZX TT, VR-4.

But honestly I lust hard after all of them that aren’t a VR-4. And I still like those, just not nearly as much as the rest.

What part of seattle are you in? I see one like once every few weeks at most. Most of the R32s i see are not GT-R’s.

I commute between capitol hill and redmond.

Ever since the tolls went in I don’t really use 405 unless it’s after 8pm. I can’t even think of where you can drive on the shoulder?

You should. Relatively comfy—by Miata standards—plus that engine is just remarkable. Look for an ap1. Bonus points, they’re in the Toyota Tacoma bracket and chances are you’ll be able to sell for more than you bought it for later on

I don’t typically take 405 but I had to pick the kid up from day care. From Bothell on the shoulders are open.

Might have to research an ap1

Live in Kirkland, but drive all over the Eastside. There are a ton of guys with them living on Juanita drive between Juanita and Kenmore for whatever reason. That and then Bellevue, mostly on the Factoria side

I like the 300 and Vr4 just because they’re a bit different. All the power of their competitors, but bigger, more luxurious grand touring style than straight up sports car. Would be a good stable mate for the Miata.

The fuel cutoff is set a bit differently based on country it was sold in, but they can rev to 9200 safely (which is 200 over redline) stock. Traded roadsters with a good friend for three days and good god... Second favorite engine I’ve experienced first hand, right behind a gt350

I think both of those cars are slightly diluted in my mind by the fact that there are non-turbo versions of those cars out there. Like...the top versions of both of those cars are super awesome, but I spent a large portion of my youth being disappointed by missing twin turbo and VR-4 (or even R/T ) badges on the back of these cars.

But i mean, the 300ZX TT was one of my first automotive loves. Its just that the FD looks soooo so so so so good. And the NSX looks almost as good, and its mid engined. And the Supra has a big wing, which really spoke to me as a 12 year old. And it was fast. And the GT-R kind of blew my mind the first time i read about it in the pages of car and driver.

Its basically my favorite segment of cars of all time.

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s a good point. I’d be totally happy with an FD with a blown engine, I’d just swap something else in. The Z and 3000gt though... Gotta go top trim.

My FD rx7 owning friend is scared of the 300zx and 3000gt Vr4 because of reliability and apparently some of the most difficult maintenance woes known to Japanese cars, so it’s probably a dangerous purchase.... but man! 9o’s awd+all wheel steering+twin turbo!

Agreed. Late 80's to early 00's was an incredible time for Japanese autos

I agree with you on the FD front. Its the brilliant chassis and the styling (best looking japanese car of all time IMHO) that make the car great. Interesting, cool engine but in the real world i’d be perfectly happy with a V8 or a 2JZ in there.

I’ve heard the same thing with 300ZX’s and VR4s. And honestly, one look at the engine bay of a 300ZX TT and you can see their point.

I learned that lesson when i owned a 1988 Celica All-trac. Very cool car. Very hard to fix though. I’ll never forget changing the clutch on that thing, it was an absolute nightmare. I currently drive a 350Z which is soooo so much less interesting than any car we’ve discussed in this post, but man. That simplicity is a blessing when it comes to maintenance.

My dream: a Mk IV Supra, NA, no spolier, MT, no moonroof, white.

Last forever, look beautiful, never worry about the “what if” scenarios because I just have enough power to move the car just fast enough.

I also dream of stock 210 coupes and 510 sedans.

In my other dreams I want an HPA Motorsports New Beetle. So I’m not all boring. And I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll never, ever, ever, own an RX-3.

If you can buy a GVR-4 spend the money, buy one that someone has owned awhile and fixed everything on, unless you want it to be an endless project. ~source I’ve owned one for two years, and it had been neglected for 14 years when I bought it.

I like your list. Particularly because the Z32 is above the Supra. But I question the NSX being so low! It’s the king of the hill!

In Australia at least you won’t find a Cappuccino cheaper than a Z, despite the Z being better in every conceivable way.

Kinja'd!!! AestheticsInMotion > Nauraushaun
05/03/2017 at 04:08

Kinja'd!!!0

The Supra is classic sportscar curves, but the Z is retromodern wedge rocketship. Such an interesting vehicle.

The NSX and gtr don’t do anything for me. NSX is in front because gtr’s are a dime a dozen and owned by the bro crowd around here.

Damn seriously?? Hmm I’ve only looked into cappuccino pricing in Japan, and even with shipping it’s well below a properly sorted out TT Z... As it should be!

The Supra is fat and gross . It’s bloated.

How do they not do anything!? I adore the NSX.

Yeah it’s a weird thing over here. All our TT Zs are imported, but they’re still cheaper. You can have a decent one for under 10k. Meanwhile Cappys be like...

For me, it would be NSX>RX-7 FD>Skyline GT-R>Supra>300ZX>3000GT VR-4.

The NSX is the ultimate real world supercar, the FD is possibly the best looking Japanese car in recent years and the GT-R brought 959-style hypercar technology to the masses.

The others are still pretty cool in their own ways. I prefer the Supra mostly of its JZ engine, the ZX aged better and the 3000 packed more kit - but the Supra always stood out a bit more to me.

And I’ve never watched F&F, blame Gran Turismo and Initial D instead.
