Summar’ there, some aren’t. Whoops. I misjudged a bunny hop though a rock garden, and came down hard with all of me, the bike, and inertia on that one tooth. It lost. I think I need a bash ring.

This is when you realize a new chainring costs only slightly less than a new set of cranks.

Ouch! Bash ring is a good idea. I’m picking up a new (to me) bike tomorrow and I think that will be one of my first upgrades.

Step 1: Remove front derailleur
Step 2: Remove chainrings
Step 3: Install 1x11 gears with bashguard
Step 4: Profit?

Heat treatment makes aluminum brittle. I think. Some vague thing in my memory says anyway.

It’s not terrible... ~$40ish from performance or $25 from fleabay.

It’s definitely hardened, and one of the cnc cut paths provided a nice little spot for a clean break.

I essentially run 1x10 for most terrain now, but as the bike is only 4 months old, I’d like to get more time out of this gruppo before upgrading.

Figured it was. No way aluminum teeth would stand up to a steel chain for long. Thanks.
