I really want a nice model of the Normandy SR2 but no one actually seems to make one. So here’s the Normandy SR2 mesh ripped out of Mass Effect 3 and dumped into Solidworks. Not terribly happy with the resolution I ended up with but it will at least get me a solid reference to build my own model from.
For reference here’s the actual in-game model I just ripped into Solidworks:

I really want a nice 12-18" model to stick on a dresser or something but the only thing currently available is the Dark Horse 6" model which looks awful. I figured I have a copy of the game to rip assets from and know my way around Solidworks so I might as well give it a try.

The UI of Solidworks is better than Creo Parametric.

This was a thing: https://www.darkhorse.com/Products/23-042/Mass-Effect-18-Normandy-SR-2-Ship-Replica
Doesn’t seem to be available anymore though, and that price is steep.

Or if you want a really tiny model that still looks way better than that 6" one: http://allscaletrek.com/viewtopic.php?t=2147

Do the Tempest next!

The issue there would be that I am using copyrighted models ripped directly from a copyrighted game and modifying them using a student version of Solidworks with a non commercial license agreement. I would absolutely love to eventually do some molds and cast some kits of it if I had the opportunity though.

I would like to do one of the Ark Ships next if this works out. Personally I find the Tempest to just be “Normandy lite” and a bit boring.

Thats pretty much what they did with the Tempest.

Keep us in the loop, I have also always been disappointed with the ones that were available. I would certainly be interested if one was to say fall out of a 3D printer or something like that.
