“We have this floppy garbage chassis, what can we do to make it uglier and also floppier?”
Other Ford Engineer, holding Sawzall: “HOLD MY MILLER LITE”

Convinced the Fox body platform is actually made of these

I gather that this was the original Ford Flex?

As somebody who has owned five Fox Mustangs, I believe this to be an excellent comment.

“Pffff, we’ll just let the aftermarket pick up where we left off.”

also you failed by posting 3.5" floppies. 5.25" bruh. Or 8". Actually floppy.

I had never fully understand chassis flex until the first time I drove a Mustang GT convertible. I just remember punching the throttle and looking in the mirror and seeing the back half of the car twisting a different direction than I could feel the front half twisting. Freaky.

There is a reason subframe connectors are the first mod most owners do.

It’s only $60 for weld-on subframe connectors and I’m really considering it.

The flex is so bad the doors just rattle in the doorframe and it’s infuriatingly annoying

“Hey we made this sweet unibody car, it doesn’t have a frame”
The aftermarket: “lol ok”

You know, I’m kinda getting tired of your disdain towards engineers.
Engineering is HARD. There are so many things to balance and so much noise from various sources. You have to worry not only about function but also maintainability, manufacturability, cost, weight, supply chain concerns like lead time or material availability, and even marketing. Oh, and you only have so much time to do so because there’s a schedule to keep.
If your point here was that the convertible is floppy, how is that the engineering teams fault? I almost guarantee the convertible was an afterthought by marketing. The car had probably been developed and a higher up came down and said “Hey, make this a convertible. And do it in a way that lets us build it on the same production line with similar parts for a similar cost”. The engineers made it happen, and while it probably wasn’t the best outcome I’m sure they tried.
So back off and show some god damn appreciation instead of acting like you know better than they do.

Yes but the regular fox was floppy too, and engineers should be judged relative to other engineers in the same industry, correct?
![]() 04/27/2017 at 12:27 |
|
Still considering it? Huh? Do it. DO IT NOW!
I would expect all of that flex would cause numerous other components to get overstressed and wear out faster than necessary, so $60 is just cheap insurance and should add to the longevity of the vehicle as well as making it much more pleasant to drive. Unless you don’t like corners and enjoy that nostalgic floppiness...

I suppose?
I’m not saying engineers don’t deserve to be judged, but the whole attitude Jake tends to take is LOL THESE GUYS ARE IDIOTS without considering the challenges of the design job itself.

Textron engineer: “Damn I wish I worked in sales”
And I’m aware there’s a 100% chance it’s the beancounters’ fault and not the engineers themselves, but humor is hard.

That’s what the SN95 Mustangs are made of. The Fox Mustangs are made of this:

I’m alleging Mustang bending is a whole separate kind of bending to known science or magic. Just like bendy tube mans.

Went to high school with a guy with a white Saleen convertible - it was super cool, (even if floppy.)
