I feel as though we’ve been over this before. MY TRUCK IS BEST TRUCK

In all seriousness, a manual swap is something I’d love to do eventually. They came with a manual, just not behind the V8--so it’s far from impossible.

That’s absolutely right, MY TRUCK IS BEST TRUCK

I’ve been considering a swap too. When I get the 360 built and dropped in, I’m thinking about swapping the NV3500 for an NV5600 if possible

Who produces the NV____ transmissions? I’m pretty sure that’s what’s in the manual Colorados, so it would probably be easier than sticking a T56 or similar in there. But then the trans they stuck behind the I4 and I5 probably wouldn’t stand up to the V8, so... dunno.

My life was complete when I beat at autocross several e36's and a BRZ in my absolutely bone stock 2005 Dakota 6-speed V8 quad cab 4x4.

In all seriousness though the Dakota’s all handle way better than they have any right to, so long as the front end is kept freshened.

New Venture Gear. Pretty sure they have a trans that bolts right up to your block. Probably an NV3500 as well, maybe an NV4500.

I wouldn’t try that in this. In the 2wd base model maybe, this thing doesn’t handle too badly as it is but it does roll a lot. The base 2wd version is lower and has coils instead of torsion bars up front... should do better

Should have. It’s the standard ‘55-up iirc so that wouldn’t be an issue. Getting the ECU to allow it... that’s the trick with these. Probably have to use an aftermarket computer to work right.

I’ve had the itch to LS swap a 2-door Colorado since I saw the one that Mr. Regular drove.

I think the one in the Colorado was the NV2500 though. So yes it’s the same work to install a T56 but you wouldn’t have to take it out again.

If one of the heavier duty NV____ would fit better than the T56 that would be my preferred route.

You’ll need to research which ones bolt up to the engine, then which ones function with your transfer case without major modification, then which ones give you a decent shifter placement

It’ll probably be a $3500 or more investment

It’s down the road a ways, anyway, if it happens at all... so I’ve got lots of time to think it through.

And I’d be surprised if that’s all it cost, frankly.

Kinja'd!!!0

for all the time+money that you spend to swap out JUST the transmission, might as well bolt a v8 in there, the 5.3 is like $500 complete, and that bolts directly on the t56, no drama

04/26/2017 at 15:19

Kinja'd!!!0

Mine’s a V8 already. That’s the problem. The V8's never got the manual option.

I was wrong, BTW, the manual used in the I4 and I5 trucks was an AR5.

I’ve heard of people turbocharging the 4200 Motors, I guess it’d be similar with the 5-cyl. Gm should have made a turbo 5-cyl Colorado and called it the syclone

GM was going to run a turbo 4200 in the Trailblazer SS too, before they decided the 6.0 would work just as well for much cheaper. I’d assume they would have called the turbo Colorado the SS as well. But the Canyon... actually if they’de actually done it, I’d have preferred the turbo only to be available in the Canyon. And yeah, some Syclone badging would have been nice.

Damn didn’t know that, but a dude here in Florida put some Typhoon badges on his trailblazer ss with a giant single turbo. Thought that was cool.
