It’s actually surprisingly good to drive, the little 3 cylinder lump is willing and likes to rev, it turns in pretty quickly, the interior is not the penalty box I though it would be, feels pretty solid. I actually kind of like it!!

Well it’s the “Monte Carlo” special edition, so it had front fog lights! black alloys! Blacked out grill and headlights! Inside it’s got AC, power windows, remote locking, a rev counter (!!), some red bits of trim and on the seats, a half decent sounding stereo, leather steering wheel etc, it’s actually got pretty much all you really need!
It’s a manual with an eager sounding and revving 3 cylinder, it goes pretty well for what it is and is pretty chuckable, it’s not in anyway hateful like the various Citroen C1's and their ilke I have been given as loaners in the past!

If VW would commit to a proper UP! GTI, Skoda Citigo VRS or Seat Mii Cupra I’d be in line to buy, maybe the 1.4 TSI from the Ibiza FR or a higher state of tune for the 1.0 turbo.

I agree, I think the 1.4 would be a bit too big for it, maybe the 1.2 with about 120-130bhp would make it a really fun little car, also I think the Citigo is the best looking of the 3. It really has surprised how good small cars have become these days.

I really like these little cars. My girlfriend has one and it’s just simply good. Good handling, good build quality, good on fuel, practical, revvy, sounds great. Every time I drive it by myself I invariably end up up texting her something along these lines;

I wonder what ‘we’ could do with these once they’ve depreciated enough. Wild engine swaps or junkyard turbo builds?

I’ve already had this conversation with Josh. VW Up! 89hp 3cyl front and back, AWD 178hp Citigo, good weight balance, fun!

You’d need two transmissions then. It’ll be hard to have 2 manuals, but maybe flappy pedals behind the wheel could be wired to control two DSGs at the same time.
Still though, I wish I was a better wrencher with a better place to wrench. I spotted a very clean very original 1986 Peugeot 205 diesel with 300k for very little money. A mid 90s 2 liter gasoline engine from PSA will slot right in (same engine family) and a donor costs next to nothing. You’d have a 850 kg 135 hp sleeper for next to nothing.
Light weight cars are simply the most fun to drive, especially with a decent chassis, as this Skoda proves.

There’s kinda a tradition of twin-engine watercooled VWs. The two ways I’ve seen it done are, complex shift linkage that controls both transmissions (with cable shifters, this is actually easier - just control two sets of cables, one that curves around to the back), and using one or two automatics.
Of course, seeing how the Up’s automatic is a robotized single-clutch unit... I’m thinking the shift linkage is a better idea.

The backlight on the screen between the dials is faulty, won’t go very bright, so it’s getting a new dial pod!

It did a little chirp from the tyres when I booted it from the lights! It manovered without giving it any revs.

It really is a fun little car, has really surprised me how chuckable and gutsy it is, plus that little 3 cylinder sounds great!

There is a nutter on the Briskoda forums who is still in the process of the swapping a 1.8T into his Citigo. Absolute lunacy, but I’d love to have a go in the resulting little monster.

Got to agree the Skoda does look the best, close second the Mii and a very distant third, the VW (that front bumper is awful). The Skoda is stylish and reserved.
I wouldn’t mind a Citijet (concept) for the summer though.

I think think the Skoda is the best looking of them, looked really funky in the “Monte Carlo” spec of the one I had.

The Monte Carlo should (like the Fabia Monte Carlo) have either the partial black roof.
or black A and B pillars and roof.

Yeah a black roof would really suit it.
