Has anyone used both these and the yellow/blue Costco ones? How do they compare?

The Chinese microfibres tend to be a poorer quality.

If they were Korean microfibres it would be a great buy.

For car cleaning.

These, looking at the fibres they don’t look to be even a 300gsm but maybe a 220-260gsm (short pile) which are suitable for general cleaning (ie wheels, door shuts, engine bays, etc...). I wouldn’t use these for removing products (ie polish/sealant residue) or buffing.

For around the house, they are okay.

if I’m polishing or trying to actually clean they might make it for 15-30 minutes before shredding itself. I can get an hour or two out of a Costco one.

Yeah, that’s what I have right now, just seeing how these compare. They come out a wee bit cheaper.

I suppose the higher pile is for the ability to trap the residue and avoid scratching? The Costco ones are also from China, but so far I have no issues with them for buffing and removing compounds.

I havent used the amazon basics ones, but I did get some sinland ones

they are decent. if you want, next weekend I can bring one over see how you like it.

Short pile is mostly for general cleaning, you have two types of short pile, 200-220gsm is almost strictly for general purpose, 280gsm has more of a plush feel and a lowest you’d use for removing product without risking damage to soft surfaces or micromarring paint surfaces.

The heavier the pile the softer and more delicate of surfaces.

A medium pile is great for all uses really.

My experience with the Costco ones is that they tend to shed some of their fibres. I have tossed all of the ones I had for better quality ones.

Sams has some nice new bigger sized microfiber towels. I always liked theirs better anyway because there are no tags. I buy them two or three bags at a time. I start them as car towels, then they make their way into the house for kitchen towels, then ultimately end up as garage rags. But I don’t keeep them for car towels more than a dozen washes. Wash hot, no softener and dry on lowest setting, or air dry and they will kept absorbing.
