Allen, damn. Who could’ve predicted this halfway through the year.

Imagine if they hadn’t traded Oshie and Shattenkirk to the Caps... this team would be unstoppable

I’ve been a fan of Allen since he came up as emergency relief after Jaroslav Halak got injured a few seasons back. In his first (or one of his first) games as a Blue he snatched a puck going suddenly up vertically off a weird bounce, and was super quick about it, you had to watch it on slow-mo to even figure out what the heck he did. I’m happy to see him doing so well, and feel a bit gratified seeing how he did without having to swap back and forth with Elliott having been traded to the Flames (where careers seem to go to die).

I liked Oshie a lot, especially seeing him in that Olympic game shootout. However he hit one heck of a slump shortly after - about the same time his girlfriend had their baby, IIRC - and never seemed to shake it off. He had done well with David Backes especially, along with a few others. He seems well matched with Ovechkin, so good for him. He hasn’t been so remarkable that I miss his presence - to that point, I miss Backes more.

Shattenkirk was a business trade, and it gave us some breathing room salary-wise. Plus, the guys we’ve brought up from the Wolves and traded-in are doing well, and injected some necessary energy and speed throughout the team. Barbashev especially seems eager to prove himself and plays well on both sides of the ice. I hope Shatt does well with the caps (but not so well they beat us, haha).

Wild fan here. Congrats on the series win, but the preds are not the wild. They can and will score at will. If you guys had issues with us, you will not make it past the second round.

I just wish we had a natural goal scorer. Ah well, I guess I will have to settle for our GM finally getting fired this off season. We can’t keep playing with his trade deadline crap.

Personally I’m wishing nothing but ill towards Oshie and Shattenkirk right now :)

They have my permission to be awesome NEXT season

I‘d be greatly amused if the caps fall in the first round. I was earnestly hoping for the same with the Penguins and Ducks. I want an underdog to succeed, a team that’s either never won or haven’t won in some time to get the Cup. Sports dynasties erode the sport and make it less entertaining for the entire fanbase, which is part of my delight at the failure of the blackhawks two years in a row, for instance. It’s the same reason why I was and am accepting of the baseball Cardinals not having made the playoffs last season, to give another team a chance at the Series win

I like playing the preds. Even the times we don’t win, it’s a lot of fun in a scrappy, earnest way. In contrast: playing the Blackhawks where they seem to play dirty and don’t mind inflicting injuries to gain an advantage. I was at the last regular-season Blues/Preds game earlier this month, and if the next few games are anything like that, it will remain a riveting matchup indeed.

The Wild series was fascinating because the Blues were handily outplayed a great deal (Game 1 illustrated that most clearly), yet we still managed to break up plays and frustrate moves, and stay competitive. A series sweep would have been stunning because of how well the Wild was playing despite those frustrations, though at the same time it was interesting to see how few Wild goals were even-strength. Parise was dangerous, and it was surprising how often we gave him room on the ice and far too many opportunities. I’m glad to hear Staal is in stable condition.

Yeah, that was a bad situation. #4 for the blues reaching in with a bit of a can opener on him and Allen going for a toe save. Just a bad situation.

That disallowed goal should have counted. If they call goalie interference, there needs to be a penalty. If there isn’t enough to call a penalty, you can’t call interference to disallowed a goal.

I kept watching the games thinking why are we trying to out hit the blues, we are to undersized for that. That forth game was they way we should have played all series.

Ah well, good luck with the preds.

Goalie Interference needs to have more standardization and definition, in my opinion.

I agreed with the call on the ice that, at first glance, it looked like GI. Upon the replay where it looked like our guy pushed yours into Allen, it looked more questionable, but not enough to merit an overturn as there was still contact before and after the push. I’d have felt the same way if the same situation had been reversed. As for the penalty, as far as I’ve seen this season, usually the disallowed goal is considered punishment enough, and a penalty is only called if it’s either extremely deliberate/dangerous (the one where Granlund (IIRC) grabbed Allen and put his stick around his neck, for example), or outside the crease (e.g. knocking over a goalie playing the puck while behind the net) preventing the goalie from doing their job.

There was a controversial call in Game 5 between the Penguins and CBJ that should have gone in the BJ’s favor
