While I do still love the F-Type, there is a new lady that needs to be in my life. She’s called Exocet - not a very pretty name (or car) but I need her in my life.
After having watching Matt Farah drive one and some folks on youtube build them, I think I can do it. I may go look at a couple Miata’s this weekend. I need a bit more fun in my life and I think with Laguna Seca and Sonoma within driving range, this is it. It’s so much cheaper to run than my ralliart. So it pays for itself, right?

Are you thinking of staying N/A or going forced induction? If you’re wanting boost, then pick up a pre-’01 car as they have lower compression (the NA 1.8 having less than the NB1's if you want that extra margin of safety). The ‘01+ VVT cars are great for wanting to build a rev-happy N/A engine but they can work well with boost, you just have to be more careful avoiding pre-detonation.

This is amazing. I normally don’t care for turbo noises, but this sounds amazing!

I think I’m going to go look at an NA8 this weekend. I’m undecided on boost. What my heart really wants is a fire shooting rotary transplant.

Haha, indeed. I’m a bit more of a turbo fan (especially for an inline 4). Turbo noises when turned up to 11 or 12 can sound pretty great. Anything over an inline-4 should get a supercharger.

It’s what’s on the inside that matters.
Which hopefully is me soon enough.

Make sure that Miata has a Torsen, it’s not fun spinning one wheel if you have a dedicated track car like an Exocet! Lots of ways to check for signs of it being a LSD-equipped car from the factory (power windows + factory cruise control is one) but the surefire way is to do a launch with one wheel on grass/dirt and one on pavement.

Yeah, I’ve limited my search to Torsen cars. I’ve more or less memorized all the special editions and LSD spotting tips.
In order of importance:
Maintenance > Torsen > NA8 > NB > Already has racing seats > Other upgrades that I would do anyways (stainless brake lines, aftermarket wheels, aftermarket steering wheel) > Parts I could sell (hardtop, etc)
