They introduce themselves, ask two reasonable questions, and then tell you they want to come see it and give you some estimates of when they’re thinking:
No trade requests, no off the cuff 1/2 price offers, no requests for more pictures, no silence for two days then a question to which you respond then silence for two days.
He’s doing it all wrong.
If this guy actually comes to look at it, my mind would be blown. If he buys it, I might pee a little I’ll be so excited.

I had the same thing happen with my Miata. Guy drove two hours to see it and test drive it too! Sadly, no deal was ever made because he didn’t like the whole Kansas-takes-the-title-of-cars-with-leans-on-them-thing.

Believe it or not, there are people who didn’t grow up learning all their negotiating strategies via ebay and CL. Shocking, I know!

I had an awesome experience selling my Malibu Maxx a few weeks ago. We posted it on Facebook rather than CL, but immediately had 8 interested parties. The first person showed up the next evening with her father who was a mechanic. They test drove it, then returned and asked a couple of questions. After a little back and forth, we settled at $200 under my ask price. Quick and painless. It was great.
I could’ve held out for more, but I didn’t want to risk holding out and losing a potential buyer altogether...I needed the driveway space.

$200 under asking price is fair. I may have to check out Facebook...

I don’t bookface, but it was my gf’s idea since she does. Had it not been for her, I never would’ve tried it.

I’ve gotten pretty weary from all of it.

That sounds like me when I buy a car on CL. I find the one that matches what I want and is priced where I want it to be priced, the I go and have a no-nonsense transaction.

She posted to a local Facebook group here in our town. It’s a town of 50k and has a fair number of people looking at it. We washed the car and took some pics, then put them up on the page with a brief description. In three hours we had 8 interested parties.
Regarding the exact mechanics, I couldn’t say as I’m not a Facebook user.

Honestly, I’ve had way more good interactions with people who showed up than bad. Sounds like you’ve got a good one.

It’s true that people who actually show, tend to be normal. It just stinks that you have to work through 5-6 interactions over email text for every person that shows.

Yes indeed.
