I think sometimes music history should be a required part of the high school curriculum. Also, it should include one lecture entitled “No, your garage rap group is not going to make it big; you need to do your homework and build a real life.”

Don’t push me — because I’m close to the edge. I’m trying not to lose my head.

I think of Sugarhill Gang when it comes to old school rap.

My friends have never heard of the people I listen to. EPMD, Gangstar, Dilated Peoples, etc

I was just thinking the same thing.... one of our techs today says he’s gonna put on some “Old School Rap” then starts blasting DMX and Eminem.

I like where your head is at. There’s a DJ on Mixcloud that’s done a bunch of year by year “best-of” mixes you may like. Here’s the 1993 mix (pretty sure he goes back into early 80s, and ironically enough, quits around 2000).

Gangstarr is the shit! Above the clouds is one of my favorite songs. Lately I have been on a Outkast kick.

Above the Clouds is one of their best and one of my top rap songs.

Listen the Outkast Album Aquemini if you like some old dirty south hip hop.

Yeah we need a cutoff. 20 years? I think it should be 20 years.

Yeah I’d say about 20 years

There’s no way The Blueprint can be considered Old School, and there’s no way Reasonable Doubt cannot.
