Which would you choose?
3.5 liters of RL sweetness?
Or the cloud-like Avalon?

Avalon. it hurts me to say that...

Neither. Gs300 (or gs400) of the same era. But of those two Ive heard great things about the early RLs whereas the avalon is super boring

Toyota over Honda.
Even though it’s an Avalon...

RL

RL

RL. Unless it has transmission issues like every other automatic Honda from that time period.

Never an Avalon. Too boring. I like the RL - are they really dirt cheap? ?

The RL, but neither is really my style.

A buddy of mine post-college had one of those Avalons. 300k miles, two deer, and god knows how many D.C. potholes and the thing still drove like brand new.

I’d take the RL...it just oozes restrained class.

The RL has a longitudinal engine layout like the 2nd gen Legend it replaced, and also the Vigor and 1st gen TL.
As far as I know the shoddy Honda V6 transmissions are all from transverse layout cars.

RL all day long, not even close.

I’d break out of my Toyota fan bubble and bag an RL, that 3.5 is a sweet mill.

RL is AWD, I believe, so that.

Very true. It wasn’t just V6s, either. The 5th gen Prelude had auto failures as well, especially the first two years, and I haven’t read many positive things about the autos on 1st and 2nd gen CR-Vs.

Sorry - after I woke up from this snoozefest I had to do a double-take to verify you didn’t have two pictures of the same car.
Well, umm, I guess I’d take the Acura or whatever...

Neither!

I’ll have the Japanese Buick.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t first-gen RL only come with a 4-speed Automatic? It would be a lot of fun to wind up that 3.5L V6 if it had a Manual.

I second that!
I knew a teacher that ran over a tree in hers. She. Ran. Over. A tree!
Coincidentally, this also happened in MD.

Alright alright, we all know LS400 is always the answer.
But of these two, I’d go with RL. Didn’t they have some trick longitudinal mounted drivetrain that allowed the transmission to be mounted behind the front axle?

The RL based on looks alone.

Does it matter? I honestly can’t tell the difference looking at them.
