I ask because my car doesn’t qualify to be an Uber. But doing Uber/DD would be an awesome way for me to earn some additional income.
I can’t find out any further information about doing it without giving them my email, but I’m assuming my car will be allowed since on there website they show a guy doing it with a Vespa.
Also suggestions for any other side gigs that don’t require fixed hours would be much appreciated.

How do tips work? Is it automatic to the order, or voluntary?

I did something like that for a couple months. The secret is to time your hours just right or else you risk sitting on your ass for hours at a time. The optimal schedule for me was working the lunch rush M-F and sticking around for the after-work parties on Friday. I heard good things about the dinner shift though.
While they don’t care what you drive (I used an old Integra and my colleagues used everything from a bike to a Scion iQ), it will wear the hell out of your car in ways you don’t always expect. Keep a clear plastic storage container, a roll of paper towels, and a bottle of Resolve carpet cleaner in your car at all times.

What exactly was it that you did? I ask because I’ll be moving soon and don’t know if Door Dash itself will be in the area.

The customer has to pick it or give it to you in person. I just do it on the app.

I worked for Caviar, which is another app-based food delivery startup/etc. This was in 2014 when they were still hip & new and Square just purchased them.
They paid a flat fee + tips, which was nice when I was schlepping a corporate order, less so when somebody had a $10 order of scones sent to a friend that required me to drive across town at the end of a shift.
