"Steve in Manhattan" (blogenfreude01)

I just realized why the new Top Gear is different ... watchability. I will watch the BL Challenge anytime, and the Italian supercars for under £10,000? Sure, right now. But I watch the new show and, without fail, delete it from the TIVO. I will certainly watch them, but I have no desire to revisit them. Thoughts?

Those segments you mentioned was the old trio in their prime - the jokes hadn’t been overused yet, and the scripting wasn’t as blatantly obvious as they were in their final seasons.
I still enjoy the new series, but I agree in that I haven’t gone back to watch old episodes, whereas I think I’ve watched every episode of the old trio at least a few times. Series 10 probably has the most replays - the BL Challenge, the best driving road in Europe (which I think was a beautiful segment, especially when they do find that perfect road), and that 24h race at Silverstone with the diesel Bimmer.
Time will tell if I come back to watch these new episodes, but I wonder if this new trio will really find their “prime” since there’s something the old guys had that even they can’t really find again.

Note how you said series ten. Give these guys a little while, and I’m sure the same replayability will be there.

I have completely lost interest in Top Gear. I now focus on Roadkill, but they have been alarmingly silly in the past couple of episodes and I hope they do not spoil. I completely do not understand how BBC chose the people they chose to continue after Clarkson-the-Knob left.
Oh well; moving on...

Very true, which is why I wonder when they’ll really hit their prime. First couple of seasons when the old guys had started were not very good, and there was a change in hosts as well (I think James May only started in the 2nd or 3rd series).
Given that I at least enjoy the current segments, I think they’re on their way.

I agree with all of that ...

Chris Harris is a very good driver. Rory is pretty good. And Matt can present a show ... still, I wonder if I’ll even bother in a few years.

I thought Matt was dull and dreary. It was just a yawn for me. Clarkson is such a knob that my wife asked me why I still watch him and I couldn’t give her -- or myself -- a reason.

Maybe it’s like a Woody Allen movie - he’s probably a creep, but I’d watch Manhattan again right now.

I’m with you. I’m really enjoying the new series and I’ve watched it the day it airs each and every time and enjoyed it... but yeah I don’t feel a red to re-watch any episodes. Maybe a segment here and there. Cuba this week was pretty darn good though. If it keeps trending that way it could turn into something special.

Yep - the new show is still produced beautifully, but the content isn’t quite there.

I know what you mean. I really enjoy it, though. It’s much more a pure car show now as opposed to being entertainment with cars. I guess that makes it less timeless, or something? Also, the hosts haven’t had time to develop the rapport of the old crew.

I haven’t watched a single episode of the newest season yet. I plan to, but it hasn’t been a priority. Not for any particular reason, it just hasn’t.
Conversely, I caught all of TGT and look forward to more.
