Depends on the amount of the angle, but I really don’t mind it at all. I personally wouldn’t do it but I would like to lower my car to the point there is very little wheel gap.

I bet I’ll get roasted or something for this, but I rarely prefer stock cars.

im all for lowering a car but decreasing the tires contact patch is dangerous, especially when youre also messing with the suspension geometry.

bags is still stanced, most well done stanced cars are on bags, crappy backyard jobs ruin the suspension.

If I were to modify my car, I would try and make it handle better or go faster. Seems as though stancing works in the opposite direction.

Some people like show cars more than that, not all but some. I’m somewhere in the middle, but I prefer show cars like low riders and stuff. Tracking a car seems too expensive to me.

I don’t like stanced cars because it’s messing up a car in the name of looks, except it doesn’t look good, it looks broken. It is the automotive modification equivalent of wearing some really sweet sneakers except they’re not your size and you leave them all unlaced.

There is not a binary relationship between stanced cars and stock cars. There are plenty of other, better ways to modify a car that make it look nice and actually work better than stock.

I’ll take my thoroughly modified but not stanced car over stance bullshit any day.

Kinja'd!!!

(The only time I don’t entirely hate a stanced car is when it’s something that isn’t supposed to handle good anyway. But I still think it looks stupid. Wheels aren’t supposed to stick out from tires.)

Just because a car is bagged doesn’t mean it actually handles well.

I like stanced cars as long as they’re done right and aren’t trying to be justified as performance. If someone want to stance it then make sure it’s safe and on bags. And just admit that you like the look instead of trying to be a poser and say it’s because racecar.

I lust after a slammed VIP Mercedes S-class as a daily. And a slammed STi.

Show cars are fine.

There are things you can do to a car purely for looks, that look good, instead of broken, with tilty-ass over-cambered wheels sticking out from stretched tires that are too small for them.

It’s like whoever came up with it said, “Hey, you know what would look cool? Some wheels and tires that totally don’t fit on each other or on my car!”

I am okay with stance when well executed, not half-assed, properly funded, and actually drivable. Most stance projects are none of these. While it’s not my thing, I’m not going to shit on anybody unless they’re mindlessly stance-sheeping.

it comes down to personal taste when it comes to aesthetics though. Some people don’t like lifted trucks, some do. So it’s fine when it comes to opinion of stanced cars, but theres such a witch hunt in the car community against people who have different opinions.

Not at all. Rice was really bad because people where claiming their stupid lime green paintjobs, decals, stickers, and cosmetic stuff improved their car’s performance.

I haven’t met anyone with a stanced vehicle claiming it improves their vehicles performance, because it doesn’t. There’s no blatant cringey lie in it. It’s more similar to lowriders, which are show cars.

Well in my opinion it depends on the quality of work, the BMW above is tastefully done, even if the back is a little bit much in my opinion. I don’t like those spaceship stanced cars though where the wheels are basically 90 degrees.

Yes, it is personal taste. Just because someone likes something doesn’t mean others have to respect that person for liking it.

You can make a show car that’s dumped down to the ground but has wheels and tires that fit each other and the car:

If the owner is doing it because it looks funny, instead of doing it because they think it is badass, then it gets my ok.

Negative camber always annoyed me when I’d see it on lowered VWs (which might even be where stance originated) because I knew how bad it was for the wheel bearings and joints in the axle. Modern cars, it doesn’t bother me as much, maybe because I’m completely ignorant about their workings.

The problem with the M3 you posted is taking a car like an M3 that is all about good handling, and ruining the handling in the name of a questionable look, i.e. excessive camber and tire stretch.

its funny but thats also the mindset that takes good cars (e46 m3, e39 m5, 2nd gen GS, g35/37) and makes them impossible to get in good shape dead stock. I look at a riced e46 and think “to each his own” but then resent them thoroughly because I will never be able to own a clean e46 because of this shit

Kinja'd!!! Textured Soy Protein > awmaster10

Basically, the more the aftermarket supports a given car, the more likely its owners will be to make bad choices in aftermarket parts.

Kinja'd!!!

Stretched tires? Check. Suspension that works worse than stock? Check. More dangerous to drive than stock? Check. Wheels that are the “wrong” size for the vehicle? Check.

And yet it gets a pass from automotive enthusiasts.

“Stance” is the current automotive whipping boy. People have decided they hate it, often it seems just because other people also hate it. And so they come up with all sorts of justifications for why stance is bad “stretching tires is bad” “it hurts performance” “stancers are pretending it is about performance”, regardless of the validity or reality of their argument.

Do I own or want a stanced car? Not. But I can appreciate a well done one as much as any other style of car.

Kinja'd!!! awmaster10 > Textured Soy Protein
04/19/2017 at 16:17

Kinja'd!!!0

Definitely. And that tied with the fact that these cars all hit a low point in depreciation where all the goobers bought them up and ruined them. The fact that you could get a clean e46 m3 for $10k a couple years ago is crazy, whereas now its hard to get a stock one in good condition for under $14k

good or bad opinions when it comes to aesthetic is objective. Some people like stuff you don’t and vice versa, and thats okay. As long as they aren’t dicks about it.

I personally don’t like the stanced cars you posted, but I do like the lowered ones, I am not THAT huge of a stance fan, I just said I don’t mind it to a certain extent. I would never do it but a Lexus LS like the black ones you posted is a future option for me.

Yes, of course, some people like stuff that other people don’t like. But that doesn’t mean that all opinions are of equal value. Some things that people like are stupid and bad.

The point I was trying to make with the Lexuses is that even within a style like VIP there’s a way to do it that’s not stupid and broken-looking.

As long as the kids stick to FWD shitboxes and not actual performance cars like that E46 M3...I can avoid the cringing. When you start crippling a real performance car like that is when it just goes too far. Slam a Camry for all I care, just leave the actual good cars alone instead of ruining them. Since your “personal taste” requires the ruining of the handling of your car, why start off with a good handling car at all?

Let’s say your personal taste in art is modernism. You don’t take the original Mona Lisa and add your splash of modernism by painting over it with disfigured, multicolored faces. It’s like if you’re gonna smear shit all over something, start off with something that’s already close to your end product. It makes other enthusiasts mad when people start smearing shit over an E46 M3.
