I shared this the other day as a comment to something, but it’s worth repeating. Pictures unrelated.
My wife and I both have always had manual transmission cars
(no, I’m not bragging. I don’t want a gold f-ing star. Just stating a fact, relevant to the story, I promise).
In any case, we now have 2 kids who are old enough to at least be aware of the physical process of operating a car. We recently broke the trend and bought a Volvo XC70 because
it defines the practical family car
it’s required by law in New England.
Hmm, it says here, sir, that you have, umm two dependents? And one dog. Looks like you’ll be facing a penalty if you don’t meet your Volvo Wagon quota soon. That’s right, sign right there. Initial here, and here....
Sorry, I’m easily distracted.
My son was climbing in the back seat yesterday and noticed something up front. He said, and this is a direct quote, “Daddy? Why are there only two pedals?” Referring, of course, to the driver’s foot well. I literally laughed out loud, then smiled at him. To him, cars have three pedals, just as sure as they have a steering wheel.
Why does it only have two pedals? It’s a long story, son. And I’m afraid it doesn’t have a happy ending.
Great license plate (assuming it’s intentionally ironic) for your time:

“Daddy? Why are there only two pedals?”
“Birth defect. Something went wrong when it was inside its mommy in Torslanda - maybe something on its build sheet. Don’t stare, you’ll make it feel bad.”

It’s Cannon, actually! Close enough.
And thanks! We do really like it. I’m adjusting to the automatic. When I’ve driven them in the past, I am happy once I know exactly how hard to push to get one downshift, or two - or none - as the situation requires. This has the step-tronic thing, too, for when I really want it to stay in a gear for some reason. Great car, though.

A roommate of mine, at the time a senior Chemical Engineering major with a 4.0, once asked my manual civic driving friend why his car had a second brake pedal.
