That sucks.

I got money back, which puts my way up for this month after some prize money I received earlier. However, I also bought tires and brake pads, so those gains aren’t quite as good.

We got a little money back this year as opposed to last year when we had to pay in around $150.00. My wife sold Jamberry nail wraps online as an independent distributor and tax man hit us hard with that.

Next year, we’ll have a kid to claim so hopefully things will be better. I’m playing on making a giant principal payment on the 6.

Since I moved across the US again, I could claim the move since my company didn’t pay for me again. Painful...it is nice to get cash back, but I am still in the hole. I am working on that.

It’s much better than having an interest free loan yourself...especially when it gets large. Not sure WTF my wife’s company is doing but this is the 2nd year in a row they withheld next to nothing, and we changed her withholding exceptions after it happened last year too.

I know how that is. I just filed my 2015 state taxes because I somehow downloaded the 1997 form last year and filled it out and sent it in without noticing.

Not gonna put it out there how much I owed but it was more than that. I should note that I own a small business so I owe basically double taxes to what most people pay (personal and business)

I’ve been an independent contractor or similar for over a decade. I own a business now. I’ve only received a small refund once or twice since. It’s always been taxes owed or break even. I’ve never gotten accustomed to refund checks.

My fiancée is getting a big refund because we (she) bought a house and all the associated deductions. Usually for her it’s a small refund or owed.

Speaking of Mazda, I plan on having my 3 paid off by the end of the year or so. Soon to be debt free! Yay.

Financially speaking I’ve always heard it’s better to owe so the government doesn’t get an interest free loan but most people, myself included, are terrible about stocking enough money away. Past two years I’ve been better on savings for taxes so much less stress come April.

You have to go over a certain distance to claim. I went from Maryland to Florida. I have a bachelor pad, but it was still expensive.

Yea, I know. You’re supposed to try and get as close to zero as possible though, the last 2 years we’ve owed over $2k in taxes. It sucks, especially when you’re not expecting it.

Yeah. I wasn’t expecting it a couple years ago and freaked. Fortunately I had enough saved and an unknown deduction actually lowered it back to expectations but I was not a happy camper. Now I know I’m gonna owe a lot and try my best to plan accordingly

2 years ago was a complete surprise as that was the first time I had ever owed money. So we adjusted my wife’s W4 form (most of the money owed came from her withholding amount) and lowered the number of exemptions, but somehow the money withheld by her company barely changed. I have a feeling their HR department was too lazy to make the changes. Fortunately we have the means to cover what we owed, but it still hurts to have a large unexpected payment like that.
