That’s roughly 300km only, following a Nash Metropolitan that my friend categorically refused to “push” on the freeway, even though I knew it could take it without any problem. Fuck, I thought I was going to die out of boredom...
If you wonder about the joys of travelling in Japan without using a freeway, I wrote about it in this article before...

Oh and did I mention I had to stay behind the Nash at all time because rear lights were so damn weak it was almost like they were turned off at times? :)

Even my Land Rover with its Cd somewhere near a parachute and miserable 5.3:1 final drive ratio could have bettered that.

I generally only drove to Izu or Kawaguchiko. Otherwise shinkansen!

I wish, but the Nash didn’t fit in the Shinkansen... Close... But still a bit too big :)

Well, the slow drive time is due to Japan and it’s roads... It would have taken pretty much just as long if we had taken the same road in a 288 GTO...

It’s not my car... It’s my friend’s. I only flew to the US to buy it for him. And I’m very happy I didn’t have to drive that thing for 8 hours. :)

There’s less drifting there than I’ve been told occurs.

When you say ‘push’ do you mean he refused to exceed 80kph or do you actually get 100kph limits on the freeway up there and he didn’t want to exceed that?

Speed limit is 100kph but nobody drives at this speed... He just didn’t want to drive the car over 80kph...

These cars were geared too high (short legged) for the 1.5 liter engine they had, but still a sustained 55mph should be possible without harming anything. Supposedly. Supposedly a rear end from an MG midget will swap in to give better freeway speeds.
