You have to remember this is a European van. I don’t think they have the sun in the UK or Germany...

My truck has a chrome steering wheel. I’ve blinded myself more than a few times. I’ll be replacing it in the near future and it won’t have any shiny bits.

You don’t really need to see to drive.

2/10 not enough chrome

Mini did it better with a flat silver.

Though you can see yourself in the badge and the Tach could really use some kind of sunshade. You also can’t see the digital readout when wearing polarized sunglasses.

It’s Ford’s revenge on everyone who complained about “cheap-looking plastic everywhere”. Like, “fine, we’ll give you something shiny to look at, ya jerks”.

Chrome is the devil’s interior veneer.

Now it uses all the RAM.

I also hate chrome on the center console or around the vents, as those also catch the rays a lot too.

That steering wheel looks really horrible to use though

The polarization thing is a pet peeve of mine, it’s just laziness/oversight on the manufacturer’s part.

The thing is that they have to put a polarizer on the LCD to make it work and if that polarizer isn’t lined up with the filter on the glasses it causes issues.

Most sunglasses are vertically polarized, so any LCD filter at a non-horizontal angle should suffice (my GPS’ is at 45° for example, so it can be used in portrait and landscape mode).

I’m pretty sure you can replace it with the airbag cover off of a 2013-14 Focus ST if you want something a little less blinding. It’s not at all as shiny as it looks in the picture.

I once drove a 2010 Ford Explorer with a bunch of electrical tape on the dash. I couldn’t figure out why so I started to peel it off. It was covering up the chrome around the vents and gauges.
