The reason why might shock you.
He’s running the Indy 500 in a sixth car from Andretti Motorsport. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! said that Button (McLaren’s current reserve driver) is reportedly taking Alonso’s seat in Monaco.
Did anyone put Alonso at the brickyard during #PlacesAlonsoWouldRatherBe?

I’m curious how much of the race he’ll complete, and if it will be more that he completes in the entire 2017 F1 season.*
*19 races will work out to between 3,500 and 4,000 miles, so I doubt it will be the case. Even though he has only retired in every race, he has still completed about 72% (275 miles) of the 2017 race distance so far.

It will be fun to see a two time F1 champion get knocked out of the race by Alex Tagliani

Given Andretti’s engine/car problems at Long Beach, this is frighteningly appropriate of a team to be coming to from McLaren/Honda.
Joking aside, this is awesome. I believe JPM is also going to be racing in the 500 as a one off? Hope we see some good racing between them, Rossi, Bourdais and everyone else.
Also, this seems like a great boost for Indycar’s profile in sports.
