Excuse me, what?
Just when I thought we rolled up on a 1st gen Odyssey today, I was wrong.
What I saw today was a 1st gen !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , one of less than 12,000 ever produced, and the weirdest cross-marque rebadge I had ever seen since the Honda Passport.
Turns out this is what Honda traded Isuzu for the Passport.

No, the Passport at least made sense. Honda had no experience building a body on frame SUV like what was becoming popular at the time, and wanted one to add to the lineup. The Rodeo wasn’t a terrible choice. I just don’t understand what Isuzu was going to do with a minivan, let alone one that trailed the competition pretty badly. Though they did get at least one Honda product to sell in Japan.

I actually thought these things were pretty solid back when they were new. The biggest competitive problems were size and the lack of sliding doors. I remember the back seat being pretty tight compared to a Caravan yet the whole thing still being so big that the rear doors were a huge pain in thr ass to open and close. It rode and drove better than the domestic vans, though.

I guess I should say they were great vans for Jalops. They weren’t enormous, they were 4-banger only, and no sliding doors. In other words, it was the hipster of minivans.
