As part of Ford’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! program, Covert Ford in Austin is providing vehicles for you to test drive to help raise money for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This Saturday, April 8, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, you can come by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and test drive a Ford, from Mustangs to trucks.* No obligation, no sales talk, no pressure. Try on “Drunk Goggles” to see how hard it is to drive (a golf cart) while impaired. Eat lunch at the food trucks. Purchase a raffle ticket to win a Nintendo Switch. Just don’t kill anybody while driving the Mustang. Please.

I’m not certain, but you may need to click on the Project Grad link and reserve a time, or at least tell them when you plan to be there.

Click !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for more information.

*scheduled to appear; actual models may vary; driver’s license required

I’m not entirely certain, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that no, they probably won’t have any GTs. I think you have to click on the Project Grad link and reserve a time, though.

I will be test driving a Ford this Saturday. Problems with me using that to help out include: (1)It’s a Ford I already own (2)...which is 54 years old (3)...which is not in Austin. Nevertheless, my thoughts will be with you. Except for the sweary ones.

Yeah, but I heard that Westlake is supplying Bentleys for their fundraiser. /s

Yeah, we’re definitely commoners up here.

When I first came to Austin, I taught trumpet lessons at Westlake. My very first student came in, sat down, and said rather snootily, “I just thought you should know, I don’t practice.” I said, “Okay, then what did you do in your lessons before?” “We just played duets.” So I said to myself, fine, I’ll play duets and take your dad’s money all damned day long. She was an insufferable pain in the ass.

I went to HS with quite a few of the Covert kids, Jenny Covert sold me (former UT Coach) David McWilliams’ truck in 1996. But back when I was in high school, all the rich kids just drove jacked up trucks (I drove a damned 1993 Dodge Dakota Sport).

We liked commoner vehicles, just bigger!

That’s a pretty cool fundraiser!

Really? “I don’t practice?” Okay, kid. Do whatever you want to do.

What year was that?

Not sure, about 1993, 1994.

Katy, Kari, or Paula?

Paula. Boom.

That’s the first name I thought of, but there were a couple other possible trumpet players that MIGHT have fit the bill. The funny thing: I almost dated her during that time. HAHAHA!!

You know what her dad does now, right?

No idea. I only taught there one year.

If you remember her last name, google “[last name] Austin”.

I just showed this thread to my trumpet colleague, who was Paula’s teacher before me. He remembered her last name, and that her dad is a big wheel in construction and/or government. My friend also said that she brought her kids to a children’s concert and came up to say hi.

Small world.

Small world indeed.

Now I understand why K. Taylor was so stressed back then. If other kids had half the attitude that she had, I’m surprised that he only yelled at us every other day.

I know, which is amazing. One of the most tenured employees in the district.

ETA: and a trumpet player.
