Remember the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the Ecoboost Mustang? A few owners of this tune had noticed a slight torque dip around 4000 rpm. I noticed it as well, but it didn’t happen all the time so I didn’t really think much of it.

Someone noticed it enough to call Ford, so Ford went out with their test car and tweaked the parameters to fix the dip. Thanks to a friendly owner I found out on Facebook that there was a new update available and I fired up my laptop and got to flashing.

Did they fix the dip? Yep! Pulls smoothly through the whole band now. But I think they added a little more oomph along the way: the car feels noticeably faster, especially down low. Boost comes on a bit quicker and harder than before. Once it hits 3200 RPM it takes off like a freaking rocket. This car is properly fast.

I’ve seen a couple dealers advertising MT Boostangs for under $20k. I know that’s a bunch of BS offers no one qualifies for, but at say a negotiated $25k with a tune these really seem like an absurd performance deal. Makes me wonder why they still bother to offer the FoST at all.

I guess, but I just can’t imagine why anyone would buy a 250 hp FWD based on an 7-year old ecobox platform sitting next to a 300+ hp RWD car for the same price at the same dealer. The FoST made sense 4-5 years ago. It would make sense some other lineup. I don’t think it makes any sense in the current Ford lineup.

If someone needs a hatch or to be able to seat five people (well, four comfortably), then an ST makes a lot more sense.

Because some people need space to fit people/stuff.

They should have put the 2.3L in it like the boostang, though. I’m pretty sure the 2.0L is kept more to differentiate from the RS than for any other reason.

Eh... I test drove an ST and have been in a lot of Focuses (Foci?). You cannot fit 4 people comfortably or carry much of anything in the hatch. It’s honestly the worst packaged compact hatchback on the market right now. Especially with the Recaros - they are so thick they make legroom in the back essentially the same as the Mustang. The GTI can fit 4 people and stuff. A FoST really can’t, which makes the Mustang more attectice. They need to get a next generation with better space utilization out ASAP.

Now I’ve started something I guess. I’ll give you the second point for sure! But the Focus is surprisingly cramped inside IMO.

Yeah the 2.3 in the ST would make it more attractive at the price... maybe in the next gen - I think the AWD is enough to differentiate the RS but I’m not a marketer.

Because while mustangs are awesome, hatches are way more practical with the seats laid down.

For example my Newfoundland won’t fit in the back seat of a Mustang, but is definitely comfortable in my Focus hatch.

Practicality is relative. The Mustang can carry a lot of crap, and I don’t carry 4 people often. In fact I might argue that most of the time my Mustang is more practical than my Sonic was because the enclosed trunk space is bigger on the Mustang

It is definitely relative, but trunk vs hatch is an easy choice for me. Trunks suck, awkwardly shaped and hard to fit even medium sized items in. My Focus only has the rear seats up when I need to carry more than one other person so the space available for use is huge.

Pretty sure. There might be a slight fuel economy dip but it seems to be about the same. It certainly hasn’t lost a lot of efficiency
