Talk about rare.

Someone at my office drives a late-ish model base Cavalier sedan and actually takes decent care of it! Or else they inherited it from someone who took care of it. Either way, it’s a rarity, for sure.

Whoa whoa whoa!

It’s cosmetically nice on the shiny side but there is no way you can be sure it runs nice or is not ready to finish decomposing into it’s component elements underneath.

Eww, gross. Knowing how things are in Florida, I’m guessing the latter. This was a “buy American” staple and for some reason the olds thought they were worth... well, they thought they were worth buying, which is weird, but they also thought they were worth taking care of.

Cars around here don’t really rust too badly. We don’t get enough snow. But they do rust if neglected enough. I didn’t see any crustiness on any of the usual J-body trouble spots with this one.

Quick story: When I was in high school. My Mazda P5 was rear ended by an F250 (while I was ditching school, and thus got caught). We got a free rental (a red J body), but I wasn’t supposed to be driving it as I was only 18. I took it to hockey practice one day and I must have gone speeding past an Enterprise Van because they called my mom and told them that they saw one of their cars speeding and full of kids.

When I got home after practice my mom told me to take my friends home in her car and come right back. She had a Ford escape at the time. I was all pissed off about the incident(s), but I jumped into my mom’s car, backed it out of the garage...rightthefuck into the rental!

Batting 1000 that week.

There was a late model Sunfire at work yesterday with - wait for it - 26,000 miles on it.

Paint was immaculate (and a very pretty shade of blue) and the interior looked like it had never been sat in. It was the strangest thing I’ve seen.

That’s pretty much how my wife wanted one, her cousin was selling one and her Dad said “hey do want that car your cousin is selling? I’ll pay for half of it and you can pay me back for the rest when you get a job” she didn’t know what it was, or what it looked like, she just wanted a car
