I’m guessing no ex cop cars? What kinda variety they get in terms of years?

What kind of import eligible cars would $1000 US buy me?

Can you get me a FIAT 500e for like $3500?

Well if you have full access to the auction yourself, don’t export the car and don’t through a middle man, lots of stuff... A less than average but mechanically good Honda Beat is buyable for that price...

What year?

No, but you get fire trucks... And you can get absolutely everything here

Any year, they really didn’t see any changes from 2013 to now. They are just so cheap from the auctions that it seems like a deal to get on for my 14 mile commute.

Oh, I’m in Japan... I don’t think you’ll want to have one shipped to you from this far haha. Not too mention that you wouldn’t be allowed to import it legally anyway :)

Too rare in Japan... I’ve seen like 2 since I’ve been here.

That would be fairly hard... In case you don’t know, I live in Japan :)

Oh I can find one, just not at this specific auction place :)
I do have access to all the auctions around the country, but to actually check the cars in person to make sure they’re in good condition is not easy...
But there are Suburbans popping out once in a while... Maybe a couple per month.

How old? Newer ones? I thought petro was relatively expensive there, then adding a gas guzzler on top would be financial suicide.
I used to have a ‘90 they got 9-10 mpg.

Exactly 7 went on sale in the past 2 months, all over the country. 3 close from me, in Nagoya.
One was a 2013 with 128000km (that’s pretty much daily driven here)
One 2004 and one 2008 both with respectively 62 and 63000km on the clock. I can’t see how much they sold for unless I get to work which is about 200km away haha. But cheap, probably between 2 and 4000$ maximum.

Nothing to do with the auction per se, but were these actually a thing? Or just marketing?

Oldest one was a 1996 model, newest one a 2013 one.

Good ones, at dealer auction, are less than 2000$. Plastic bumper ones... Early hand made models are less than 4000$...

You and I are going to need to talk one of these days about 117s. They are seriously beautiful cars, I can’t believe they are still that cheap.

Yeah they are cheap... Don’t forget that’s the price at the auction. The company I work for charges around 700$ of fees to buy one and shipping is around 800/900$ for a car this size. Then you have import taxes, port fees on your side, broker fees... Etc. Pretty much an extra 1000$ total before it gets it’s own license plate in your country.

OK good to know - yeah I was thinking it would be an extra 2500-3K to get it on the road here on top of the auction price. Not at the point where I can move forward right now (in the midst of getting ready to move to the east coast), but I am seriously tempted. How does it work when I’m ready to go?
