Was the Land Cruiser with a snorkel owned by a haole?

I’m trying to help my relative look for a car on Big Island (remotely) and dear lord the car selection there is shitty. It’s like Cuba over there, with 200k mile Neons and clapped-out 1990s Accords littering cl.

Good luck with that. I was only there a week and selection seemed pretty limited and nearly everything was pretty beat.

Never saw them, but it was at the Marina so the chances are good.

Probably something to do with the east side of the island being a mostly poor, very rural area that also happens to be surrounded by ocean...

According to this girl I know from the big island (the south east side, so even worse), the car situation there is pretty ghastly. People buy the cheapest/shittiest new cars because the used market is so bad and it’s pretty much guaranteed it’ll suffer some body damage that you’ll never get fixed.

Their car when they moved here was the most ghastly thing ever: a first-gen Aveo. Her parents gave it to her when they got a decent car. I felt so sorry for her, and it’s my main experience with Aveos.

Nope, wrong island. But damn if I didn’t hold onto hope.

I’ve been to Oahu a few times in the past 12 months and all I ever see are Tacomas... it’s like Subaru’s in Colorado

Yeah, I notice a lot of cars with body damage, rust and generally poor maintenance is par for the course there. There are some better ones on the Kona side, where some retirees live, but that’s not an insignificant drive. I would go for the most basic and durable car possible, like an old corolla, but those are in high demand for exactly that reason.
