Kinja'd!!!

You can name people after cars and you can name cars after people (whether real or fictional). What are some names that would be great for a car? I feel like “Amber” sounds pretty good with any brand.

By the way, the Nissan “Cedric” is the modern day equivalent of naming a car the “Harry” Potter. It’s from  Little Lord Fauntleroy .

Beat up ‘89 Ford chassis Chinook RV at work is named Hank. He’s logged about 40,000 miles pulling a cargo trailer across ND in the last few fall/winter seasons.

Caroline is the younger class C for longer marketing trips (Mountain biking).

Logan is a pretty great car name, but I might be biased.

Toyota Sera, no quite Sarah but close enough.

Ford Frank, Or Ford Eddy. Dodge Damion? Mazda Madeline.

Nissan Lucy, that would be a good Kei car name.

Eleanor? Christine? Herbie?

But on a more serious note, the Alfa Guilia works on that car, not sure about if another maker could pull that off. Maybe Dante or Dianna?

Actually, funny you should bring up this subject. My college roommate’s name is Hudson. Towards the beginning of the year I was on the phone with my dad, who forgot my roommate’s name but remembered that it was an old American car company, so he ended up asking me, “How is Packard?”

I could see Chrysler with a Dianna, or maybe Buick. It would be a long, soft, but strong convertible.

It is not that simple. People manage to get very attached to certain objects, particularly if they are vehicles. And they are not people, but we end up giving them human qualities.

Now please explain why 18th-century sailors would change the name of the HMS Bellerophon and call it Billy Ruffian instead. Obviously it was easier to pronounce, but I bet for them she was “family” and deserved the name of a “person”. You are of the opinion it should not be done, and we must all respect that. The phenomenon, however, is real, and as old as language.

I read an article not so long ago which stated that dogs and cats are becoming less and less “useful” – and parallel to that process their owners have started giving them “people names”. A century ago lots of dogs had names like Patch or Ginger or Flash; now people call their pets Max or Bella or Elsa.

Our relationship with our pets, obviously, has changed. Like it or not, that’s the reality.

I have never given names to my cars, by the way.

But it is that simple, cars aren’t people, nor even alive. Name your cat whatever you want, but naming cars is dumb as hell.
