The professor I am assisting is making me search 800 different companies to see which/how many patents they have. which has me on the U.S Patent office website ctrl+c ctrl+V the hell out of it. Got about 300 done in 30 minutes.

Looks like we are in for the long haul. My fingers are tired. Fuck this noise, I want a real job already.

I am also considering saving for a 4runner instead of a challenger gt. What say you oppo?

This sounds like a job for scripting! Though admittedly if you got 300 done in a half hour that doesn’t actually sound too bad, regardless of how tedious it no doubt is.

Unfortunately between business school and cars there hasn’t been any time for computer wizardry classes.

What I thought, too. I wonder how many hours of my life I might have saved by now if I had ever bothered to write scripts for stuff like this.

I say set as your goal whatever car makes you say, “oh yeah, baby!” when you see it in the morning.

I’m thinking long term, mostly about towing car trailers. Purely hypothetical at this point, but this masters better pay for all the stress it is putting me through.

I reeeeaaly want the challenger though. Just not making financial sense, especially since I got the t/a as a fun car.

No dude, use their data products site:

https://www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/open-data-and-mobility

You can download reports that can be then manipulated using Excel.

The amount of time it will take to figure that shit out is more than it will take me to brute force it. Fortunately I only need to do this task once.

Unless the Prof. in question figures out he just got a new data-flunkie. Your other option is to befriend a Comp Sci major and pay him/her with beer and pizza to go to the site and generate a report for you.

Data flunkie is in the job description. I don’t have much actual work to do anyways so I guess I can’t really complain.

I hear ya. I reeeeeeealy want that green F-type, but I”m doing mental gymnastics to justify it. If I can’t, it will be another 10 years before I have another crack at something like it.

10 years is a long time, which makes that a much harder decision. For me, I am single, currently living at home, and would much rather dump cash into cars than real estate. If I get the 4runner (which wouldn’t be bad, it isn’t a CUV after all, pretty mean looking), after I get settled in a starter house I can either fix the T/A or get cracking on saving for something stupid fast (I have some winners at every price level so salary isn’t super important), but most of those are DIY projects that require a certain level of utility to support them. If these things actually depreciated like normal it would be a much easier decision.

Yeah, you have flexibility. I’ll just leave you with one thought, although it will make me sound old: time flies faster than you would think.
