Try to figure out how this simple bastard works. Noting that #6 is for both first AND reverse.
The two speed ain’t much better.
But somehow the 4 is.

Pfft. It’s like my Land Rover - reverse idler engages the layshaft first gear and the mainshaft first gear in their neutral positions to lock in reverse. Although, having a helical gear without constant mesh is really fucking with my head. Brief bit of modish insanity that I thought had died in the 50s.
