I’m currently working on getting a Real Job, and when I do, one of the first things I want to do is get a newer car. So, wanting some ideas, I went to Carmax and test drove a 2013 Civic Si.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I drove an 8th gen Si a few years ago and wasn’t really impressed, but I liked how the 9th gen felt and drove. It pulled harder, of course, but it felt more lively than the 8th. The steering was more responsive, the shifter and clutch felt great, and the drive-by-wire throttle felt improved. All in all, it felt like a more stable version of my 5th gen Prelude.

I mean it looks nice but the price is pretty high. That’s knocking right on the door of a new Fiesta ST, and not terribly far out of Focus ST or GTI range.

Yeah, I’d probably buy one from a private seller. I’ve seen them for around $10k.

Yeah 10k sounds much better. That’s always been my issue with Carmax, I get it if you want to buy a depreciated luxury car with a warranty but for less expensive cars they’re priced way too close to just getting a new one.

I’ve had an 08 Si sedan as a daily for the past 6.5 years. Price was right, been flawless for reliability, easy to service, decent fuel economy, and held value fairly well. Not really powerful obviously, but decent power combined with its agility makes for a good driver in my opinion.

Yeah, the only decently priced car I was even remotely interested in was a TSX, and it had over 100,000 miles on it.

So far just this and a FoST. The only German cars I really like are Porsches.

4 door or 2 door? Cause that generation of 2 door civics, imho wasn’t the most appealing. Now the 4 door, thats attractive.

FoST seems like it would be a nice choice, id recommend taking a look at a GTi as well, because why not?

2-door (had a direct link but it got Kinja’d). They had a 4-door there as well, but there was an Acadia in the way so I decided to just drive the 2-door. I like the 2-door 9th gen Si better than the 4-door, but I love, love, LOVE the way the 8th gen Si 4-door looks. They just didn’t have any 8th gens, which I would like to give another try.

I want to give the FA5 another try, because it’s a very good-looking car. They didn’t have any in stock, though.

Yeah, I could always get the MaxCare plan with it. Because i’d need it. They had a few in stock, but I didn’t want to waste the salesman’s time too much since I won’t be buying until summer at the absolute earliest.

Yeah, and 8th general 4 doors are really pretty. Craigslist, is an option or one of those mom or pop dealers, but I think in the long run, the 4 door is probably better!

Yeah, the 4-door would definitely be more useful if I have kids. I imagine it’d also be easier to hold a bike in.

I haven’t, because they’re hard to find with a manual and the ones that were on the lot today were well out of my price range. Would consider a manual one, though.

I don’t fit in the damn coupes any more - no freakin’ head room.

I’m 5'7. I fit in pretty much everything. Anything bigger than a midsize sedan feels absolutely cavernous to me, though.

Any interest in the Accord Coupe 6+6?

Maybe. They aren’t the easiest things to find (only 4 nationwide on Carmax), and I feel like they might be a little too big for me. The Civic felt like the perfect size, and after I wrote this I drove my friend’s 2014 Fusion, which felt too big and is about the same size as the Accord. If I stumble across a 6+6 coupe, yeah, I’ll definitely check it out, but right now I want a 2012 Si in Taffeta White.

Kinja'd!!!

I would go for Crystal Black Pearl, but the paint issues on the dark colors on the 8th gen carried over to the 9th.
