My general trick for figuring out performance value is cutting the price and the power by 50% and seeing if it’s still a good deal. If it needs more power or is still too expensive then that’s why something comparable isn’t offered or it’s a poor deal. If it’s a monster at half power and half price then it’s a great value doubled. So what car would you buy for half price at half power?

Camaro ZL1
Full Price/Power: 61,140/650
1/2 Price/Power: 30,570/325

I’d choose the 2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium. Hear me out.
435 hp for only $40,000
217.5 hp for only $20,000
That’s not bad at all considering that you get heated and cooled leather seats, a 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters, and blind spot monitoring.

Cherokee SRT8. 66K and 475 HP.
So 33K and 230 HP. Not the best. Probably would go for a 4Runner.

I’d totally buy a new A8 with 303hp for $58,000.

Porsche Cayman GT4. MSRP of $84,600, rated at 385hp. Halving that would get you into a Cayman with optimal handling and 192.5hp for $42k. It’s the base Cayman we’ve always asked for!
Okay, how about the Corvette Z06. MSRP of $79,450, rated at 650hp. Halving that would get you into a Corvette with aero and meaty tires with 325hp for under $40k! Performance bargain of the century, Jalops everywhere rejoice, etc.

A miata, cuz half of no power is still no power, at half the price

C63 AMG S
It can’t use the 510 BHP it has anyway and this way I can get an entry level priced C Class with a V8 soundtrack and all the luxury.

I’d be close.
Stripped out base Mustang. I’d do 150hp for $12,500 all day long. When it’s too high mileage just throw it away and buy another.

a ‘17 Land Cruiser. Cushy as hell, All the features, capable and go anywhere, plus cushy as hell.
381hp / $84,775.
190.5hp / $42,387. Heck of a price for ATRAC, KDSS, locking transfer case, that fancy ground-facing camera system and three rows of leather.

This is good math.

Z06/2: A 325HP Vette for $40k. If they could get the weight down to 3200lbs (currently 3,524), that would be a hell of a car.

That is, IF we’re still limited to vehicles sold in our present country.

I wouldn’t drive a mustang with less than 400HP, and certainly not one with a slush box.

Does it have to be the same fuel?
Loaded E43 “AMG”, 396hp, ~85K.
E250 Bluetec, 195hp - if a loaded one was 42.5K instead of the 70+K they were at the end of W212, sign me up.

So, a V6 1LE?
![]() 03/09/2017 at 12:31 |

But that’s just a V6 Camaro.

I’m probably the only person here who would choose an automatic Mustang over a manual one.

Which isn’t a terrible car. Maybe I didn’t get the point of this.

Nissan Versa S ($12,855)....... with 109 horsepower..... with the 5 speed manual.....
SO that would be $6500 for 55 horsepower.... full throttle ALL the corners, ALL the hills.......

Ram Tradesman, 185hp for $11,000.

217.5 hp is not enough for this car. Source: I own one.

So, essentially a V6 with less power?

ATS V6 sedan, msrp $46,990, 335hp.
$23,500, 167hp RWD sedan, I’d buy it.

Nissan Micra.
54 HP, $5K Canadian.
That’s more power than an old Beetle, perfectly acceptable for city driving and you’d get a pretty neat brand-new commuter with a 5-year warranty for basically the price of a ten year-old Corolla.

Trucks count?
A loaded up diesel Ram is about $70k, for ~380 hp and 800 tq.
$35k for ~190 hp and 400 tq would be plenty. A little slow though.
