"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

Alrighty, no more Mr. Nice Guy. In this week’s film, only one car appears onscreen. It does so extremely briefly, and to make things more difficult, the car is a 1902 Locomobile steam car. This is probably almost impossible to get without cheating. But I’m still not allowing cheating. Hop to it!
EDIT: I’m calling this one, and giving it to jariten1781. The film was The Prestige (2006) starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, and David Bowie.

One like it, sure. Easy. But not that exact car in the picture.

I want to say, 1960 The Time Machine.
I don’t recall any cars as such but there may of been one pass the shops as the traveller looks on from his chair.

That movie had tons of cars, none of which were anything like this?

That’s correct, the one in the film had fenders and was a sort of teal color.

In my foggy memory of watching tons of movies while recovering from injuries suffered in a wreck 4 years ago I thought there was a car like that in that movie, oh well I was on a lot of pain killers.

Was it the Jeremy Irons’ Time Machine movie? I never knew the name of the car, but I remember talking with my son about it when it took off in a cloud of smoke and he asked if it was a Model T (I at least knew enough to say no to that). We watched the movie because he had to contrast the movie with the book for a school assignment — it (the movie, not the report) was awful, IMO.

...and a single headlamp on the front, I think. But, hey. I’m keeping quiet.

One center, and one on each fender. If you know it, say it, just not if you went to IMCDB ;)

The only movies off the top of my head that were set in that decade were My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, Howard’s End and The Prestige.
I don’t remember any autos in any of them.

One of those is the correct answer.

Not to ride coattails here, but I’m guessing Oz. I believe the bitchy/witchy woman drove it to the Gale house to moan about Toto and flaunt her wealth.

Ironically (I know because I cheated), the *new* Time Machine movie *does* have a 1902 Locomobile, but not of the type in the picture. So, both almost correct movie and almost correct car, but neither quite.

Thank you! I guessed the later Time Machine movie because I remembered a steam-powered car in it, but I didn’t know what it was.

Did some digging after my hunch. Again, not going to spoil what you’re trying to do here. Good series of posts.

I doubt anyone will get it at this point, beyond the person who listed it as a possibility. I appreciate your courtesy though.

I am guessing Howard’s End? (I’ve never seen the movie. I just want to know the answer.)

So not Oz. Someone else said Howard’s End. So I’ll take The Prestige (subject to my objection that my original answer of The Time Machine remake really should be accepted!).
