Sitting on the patio with friends at a bar for Mardi Gras. There’s a band playing out here, not even singing Zydeco. There are pieces of napkins in my ears because the PA is too hot, and my eardrums are having fits when the sax player hits high notes.
THE BAND IS TOO DAMNED LOUD.

It gets worse.

That’s EXACTLY why I left the Endymion coronation ball early. The third band got on the stage and started their set with a huge symbol crash. My ears immediately said, “nope.”

That’s more of an indication that you always wore ear pro throughout your life. Hardcore shows, loud motorcycles, and gunfire has done my hearing in and you have a decade on me. Handgun rounds don’t even ring my ears now.

I can handle mass quantities of bass. A seriously loud/shrill alto sax screaming over a speaker pointed directly at my right ear? Not so much.

I always made it a point to wear ear protection on the range. Not too many concerts spent sitting right next to the sound system, either.

Oh, and you know what else sucks? I’M NOT EVEN DRINKING ALCOHOL BECAUSE I’M DRIVING MY WIFE (who IS drinking) HOME TONIGHT.

Same here. High frequencies just kill me. Always have.

Just turned 48.
3 days before my birthday I heard someone say its over there by that grey haired guy. Took a minute to realize it was me.

“who is responsible for the prisons?”
being the primary cause of something and so able to be blamed or credited for it.“the gene was responsible for a rare type of eye cancer”

A few of my neighbors keep walking through my yard. Theres no reason for it, its not even a shortcut. I dont like it and my cats dont like it. I would like to scream at them.

High frequencies killing you actually means your hearing’s good, though, at least.

It’s pretty good except in my right ear. My first truck was a single cab and I, in my teenage stupidity, mounted a set of tweeters to the side of the cab with the passenger’s side speaker pointed directly at my right ear. As a result, I’ve suffered some high-frequency hearing loss in my right ear. Whoops.

It might not be that the band was just “too loud”. Sounds like the sound (wo)man did a crappy job setting the EQ in the PA. Pierecing/shrieking guitar/sax/horns/vocals can be unbearable even at moderate volumes.

Don’t scream at them; they might come back at you with some young snappy comment. I would suggest installing a bronze nozzle on your water hose and spraying them down, though.

There was no sound dude/dudette. Just the band and their own PA system. Apparently, they like their audiences’ ears to bleed.

Whats worse is they are all older than me. They should know better.

Well, there’s the problem. On stage, the muscians will have no idea how their PA sounds out in the crowd. They either needs to do an extensive sound check before the show, or someone needs to wander back to see how things sound and make adjustments.

Or they just have no idea that their EQ is that off.
I mean, this isn’t like when I’m pulling every stop on the organ. Now that *is* loud. But it’s also musical.
Although the 32 foot flue stops get kind of lost in the mayhem of sound from the 8 and 16 foot trompette en chamade...
