I’m wondering if they’re planning to get the 2.2 turbodiesel certified to be sold here, given that Chevrolet is gonna offer a diesel in the new Equinox.
Especially when the only other engine is a 1.5 turbo I4, which probably won’t be able to hold it’s own against competitors on it’s own.
And honestly...it actually looks pretty good.

Can I ask why? I mean, I’m not an eclipse fan but I would ride a bike rather than drive a Honda SUV

I’m mildly curious about what sort of motor it gets.
While Mitsu crossovers are generally mediocre, they do sometimes get Evo-like driveline bits, like the Outlander with the S-AWC awd system has an honest-to-god eLSD on the front axle.
Not sure if this is still the case, but the previous-gen Outlander GT had an awd mode selector like the Evo that let you choose tarmac, snow or lock.
So...if it gets that kind of driveline and not the basic AWC awd system in the Outlander Sport, plus some kind of modern turbo motor, and Mitsubishi ups the general refinement level, it could be a sorta cool option.

I actually think the Eclipse Cross looks pretty nice. Stupid name, but it isn’t awful for a Mitsubishi.

As far as I can tell, the last-gen Eclipse has all the drawback of a sports car with none of the benefits. It’s slow (at least the base model is), very ugly, cheaply made, and not all that wondrous to drive. Whereas as far as I can work out, the new one is a neat looking but boring little crossover with a perfectly passable interior and other ok but not exceptional features. I would drive a boring, competent car over a bad one, even if that bad one is a sporty manual coupe.

I’d rather have the 4th gen eclipse and make a hybrid out of it.
