The Skoda Superb Combi is available with the 280ps 2.0l turbocharged engine from the Cupra R, backed up by (an actually good) 6 speed DSG, 4 wheel drive, and a not excessive 1600kg curb weight.
It looks great on the outside, and the Laurent and Klement trim level has an interior quality to rival the 5 Series, with all the gadgets and gizmos that you actually want, and some truly nice leather colours.
For the sensible amongst us: combined MPG of 40 (UK), 164g/kg emissions, 660 litres boot space, 2000 litres with the rear seats down!
For the not so sensible amongst us: 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.
I know we all have very different definitions of what makes the perfect car. But a family hauler with all the bells and whistles that goes this fast in comfort and luxury without breaking the bank to either buy or maintain it? It’s the perfect realistic one car garage.
If I could find one of these in L&K trim on the used market I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

It’s for sure the best Passat ever made.

So that means like 25 miles per US gallon in the real world (UK gallons are bigger, and NEDC is a joke).

Wait, but Skoda is a branch of VW. Which was created by Hitler which means it’s Socialist, not Capitalist!

Hitler would have chosen anarcho-primitivism if that would get him elected

I concur whole heartedly.
Though I’m more than incredibly happy with th 1.4TSi ACT, SE L Exec, hatchback.
Getting 50mpg in town with great comfort.
Piglet this morning with two weeks of dirt, dirt, the rain.

Probably closer to 30 MPG US based on 35 MPG UK. The direct calculation of 40 MPG UK is a shade over 33 MPG US, but as you stated, the testing cycle is to be mistrusted for real world usage.

Skoda: the thinking man’s Audi.

To be my perfect wagon , it would need a 3.5L naturally aspirated 24-valve DOHC V6 making similar power and to be built by perhaps Mazda or Honda. I just couldn’t bring myself to own a VAG product long term.

I’ll note that the US-spec Passat, which is similarly sized, a sedan (so better aero), and has a 1.8T and a torque converter automatic is rated at 27 MPG US EPA combined.

I remember my dad had the option to rent one of these (albeit with a weaker engine) in Germany. Being my dad, that is, weird, he opted to not have a wagon as he is paranoid someone will break into the trunk via the rear window, and instead was given a new VW CC

I agree simply because a Chevy SS wagon was never made.
(Also, how sweet would it be if they had a cheaper V6 version of the SS called the RS?)

I tried for the life of me to get at manual (hell, even a DSG) A4 wagon stateside. No puedo. So, yeah, I would go for one of those given half the chance.

European built VAG products are light years better than the cars produced in Mexico.

More “Never imported” than “never made”. Although wikipedia says they only went as far as the Clubsport R8 with the LS3 rather than the GTS with the LSA :(

Oh, I know Holden and Australian GM was making my dream car but I don’t feel like waiting 25 years for it lol
