Why does HOA hate sticks?

In Canada, you can order a Civic Hatch with a stick

Kinja'd!!!

In US you can’t

Kinja'd!!!

If HOA is going to the effort of offering a stick, why don’t they make the people who want them pay the freight..... Instead they offer manual transmissions only on the cheap LX and Sport models. I don’t get it.

It makes me consider looking at importing a Canadian market touring hatch.....

It’s all economics and buyer preference.

I read that as Homeowner’s Association. Who from stories I’ve heard would probably find a reason to ban sticks too.

You can get one on the Sport Hatchback...

Cause Americans got too fat and lazy before us Canadians. We are catching up.

How hard would a transmission swap be?

I looked at the same thing on the configurator the other day and thought the same thing. I was like, well, guess I am not choosing a Honda unless I decide to go for the SI.

I can ask the same question to BMW Canada...

In the US the full range of 3-series can be ordered with a manual (320, 330, 340) but in Canada only the 340.

Weird, as they all come from the same factory in the UK, where like most of Europe, a manual is the dominant gearbox choice. The Hatches are British, the Sedans are Canadian built.

I am not that fired up about the Si either. Honda has discussed how the Si is now the performance/value oriented car. No LED lights, no power seat to save cost and weight. I am not even sure that it will have a premium stereo. If it doesn’t have a sub-woofer, I may just keep my ‘o7 Si till something excites me.

My hope now is that HOA is reserving the top level manual transmission civic manual hatch as an option for a top level Acura. I doubt it, but I do hope.

I should have been clearer, I meant a Touring Hatch. The Sport is basically LX+. Not even as good as the LX-P which has a sunroof.

What I want is a Hatch, Touring, Stick.

Probably harder than importing a Candian Spec Touring 6MT? BTW, with the exchange rate, the Canadian Touring is substantially less expensive in US$$.

Americans buy off lots and typically don’t order new cars, which limits choice. Especially with Honda, which apparently is still a volume seller over there. Why the Canadians do get it is beyond me though.

The full range of the 2017 3-series is 316d, 318i, 318d, 318dx, 320i, 320ix, 320d, 320d ed, 320dx, 330e, 330i, 330ix, 330d, 335d, 340i, 340ix, M3.

And that’s just my tiny market.

Drives me crazy that if you want a car with options, you can’t get the stick. Part of the reason Mazda got my business when she wanted a new car a few years back. Her entire family drive stick, and from 2012 to now, they have purchased 5 (4 hatches and 1 sedan) Mazda 3's as they could get it with a stick and not be restricted to the most barebones vehicle.

I know the feeling. In the US you could only get the stick in the Mazda5 for a few years, and then only in the base Sport model, then they discontinued the car in this country altogether. Yet in Canada you can still buy a new one, and you can get a stick in even the top Grand Touring trim, which makes me wish I could just import a new one should my 2012 need replacing. Yeah, this model may be getting a little long in the tooth, but I like it and don’t see a suitable replacement manual minivan on the horizon.

You’re kidding! I know age-restrictions are legally allowable in BC condos because we’re not forbidden to discriminate based on age, but I was under the impression that it was generally illegal in the US?

What also irks me is that they lock paint colors behind more “premium models”.

Freaking paint colors aren’t allowed on your car because “oh look it’s a base model lol”
